Children’s Working Parties

Creative Kids

At Creative Kids we have made our group badge and contacted local art businesses to ask for more art and craft items. We took down the Christmas art and have made space for new art gallery spaces in and around our school. We have a few projects in the pipeline!

Gardening Gang

The Garden Gang is a gardening group in Caldercuilt Primary School run by Mrs Hewitt and Ms Keiller. We plant flowers and bulbs, as well as many different kinds of plants to try and brighten up the school. We want to make our playgrounds and gardens better. Our Roman Garden has seen some of the bulbs sprout, but we are still waiting on the others. Another thing we did was to make fat balls that have lard and seeds in them for the birds. We placed them outside and have been watching the birds come and eat from them as they are nutritious. When the weather changes we are hoping to plant vegetables and Mrs Keiller is going to out soil and seeds into old welly boots at the front entrance of the school – near the nursery.

Language Lovers

In the Language working party it is really important to us that children learner another language besides English. When we are older, we might visit other countries and we might get jobs in another country and need to use this important life skill to get by. We know that it is easier for children to learn languages compared to when they become adults. Our focus language so far has been French.

Literacy Lions

In the Literacy Lions we focus on making our school and literacy corridor look better. We work together to get others excited about Literacy and even hosted a Daffodil Tea! For this, we invited parents in and showed them all of the work we had been doing, we also gave them tea and cakes. For Book Week we worked with Mrs Cannon to plan some fun activities for all the classes to do.

Makaton Magic

In Makaton Magic we have been busy. We have been learning to sign to songs, nursery rhymes and greetings. As a group, we help across the school with learning Makaton for special songs and during assemblies. We also post videos and pictures of us demonstrating the signs to help others. We’ve even performed in front of the entire school and parents!

Sportstacular

In the Sportstacular Working Party, we talk about the sports everyone would like to take part in and do more of. Our Primary 7s run some of the sports clubs at lunch time and teach us skills. So far we have had a football club, games club and dancing club. Next term we will be thinking of different clubs to try!

Super STEMists

The Super STEMists working party is made up of learners who are really excited to learn about STEM. We teach the other classes in the school all about STEM topics because we make our own STEM News show every month. In the short video we interview parents/carers and friends of Caldercuilt who work within STEM and ask them our own questions. We share facts about a Famous Scot who worked in STEM, as well as focusing on one job so that the other learners know what skills are needed in order to do this job.
