P7 TO S1 FOR AUG 24

There will be an update to this and we shall publish this once we receive it.

Education (School and Placing Information) (Scotland) Regulations 1981

Transfer Arrangements – Primary to Secondary Education August 2023

To ensure parent/carers are fully informed of their entitlement in line with the above regulations, please note the following:-

All of the relevant P7 Transition Letters have been sent by CBS to parents in October/November 2023.

This will now follow the same CBS support process as last year and parents have been asked to return their choice of secondary pro-forma directly to CBS Hub where the details will be collated.

The letters reflect the most recent agreed Secondary School Entry Criteria, which changed in 2019 following Council Committee decisions (click on below for further information)

CBS Hub will collate the city wide P7-S1 transition details following the above communication with parents. Thereafter CBS will analyse this S1 data and provide an early indication for Education Services (early November) in regard to S1 catchment numbers across the city and potential S1 placing requests being submitted.  This will allow Education Services to consider any secondary schools with potential to be over-subscribed with catchment children in S1 for August 2024 and decide on any action required.

This S1 information will be shared with Secondary Head Teachers in due course.

Placing Request Applications

In addition to the above P7 transition forms, a parent who wishes to make an S1 placing request requires to complete an “online” Placing Request Application form.

Details of this can be found on GCC Web page “Schools and learning” “Placing Requests” – https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=18205

Free School Transport to Secondary School for catchment children

It is important that you also advise parents in regard to their child’s entitlement to free school transport for their transition to secondary school.  Please remember that the Council will not issue free “First Bus” school bus passes in future due to the introduction of the Young Scot / NEC Card which entitles young people under 22 to free school transport on any local service bus. All new S1 children should be encouraged to apply as early as possible for their Young Scot /NEC Cards to ensure they can travel to school free.

The current distance criteria for free school transport for secondary schools(for dedicated school bus contracts) is for those living 2.2 miles or over from their home address to school. If parents think this applies to their child, then they can submit an application online for this.

Details can be found on GCC Web page “Schools and Learning” “Free School Transport” – https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=17882

Should you require any further details in regard to the above P7 Transition process to Secondary School for August 2023, please contact the CBS Hub in the first instance – 0141 287 8000
