Outdoor Maths πŸƒπŸƒ

We took our Maths learning outdoors and measured the perimeter of objects in our playground.

We used different apparatus like trundle wheels and metre sticks.

To find the perimeter of an object, you measure each side and add them all up together.

Compliments and confidence ❀️😊

Through our Health and Wellbeing learning, we are learning to give and receive compliments.

We have discovered we find it hard to take compliments and we said we find it awkward and embarrassing so we are working on being able to take compliments well and appreciate what others have to say about us.

Each day, one person in our class is selected as the VIP of the day and they are treated extra special. We all give them compliments which are recorded on a certificate and given to us. Every person who has been the VIP of the day and been given compliments has said it makes them feel happy, excited, more confident and proud. They’ve also said it has improved their self esteem.

We also realised we find it hard to say positive things about ourselves and so Miss McCue got us all to stand up one by one and shout something we are good at. It was embarrassing at first but really fun.

Mrs Alexander even stood up and shouted out that she is good at general knowledge!!

Then we travelled round the room and when Miss McCue shouted β€˜freeze’ we had to stop and give the person closest to us a compliment. It was hard to give someone a compliment who isn’t one of our best friends but we are getting better at it. πŸ’œπŸ’œ

The Wee Sleep Out πŸ’œπŸ’œ

Last Thursday, 45 children and some staff stayed overnight in school to raise money and awareness of homelessness.

We believe that nobody should be homeless in today’s society and we are working to try and eradicate this problem.

We had lots of fun activities when we arrived at the school like samba, yoga, music from a band and we had a bedtime story read to us by a storyteller.

Even though lights out was at 10, the teachers could still hear some kids chatting and giggling at 2.30!!!!

There were some tired teachers the next day.

Digital Learning πŸ“±πŸ“Ή

We have been improving our digital learning skills this week by using the iPads to research dyslexia.

We worked in groups to research dyslexia as it is Dyslexia Awareness Week.

We then presented our research to the rest of the class. We are trying to improve our public speaking skills by presenting work to others at least three times per week.

After that, we worked in pairs and used the iMovie app to creat short films about dyslexia. This was fun and it was good to explore the app and it’s features.

We then created a short film as a class …

Halloween πŸŽƒπŸ§Ÿβ€β™€οΈ

Wednesday was a day like no other.Β  It was an interesting day because our school changed into a haunted house.

In Primary 6, we had Harry Potter and Hermoine, creepy zombies, meowing cute black cats, spooky skeletons, superheroes like Spiderman and Ironman who were trying to capture the escaped prisoner,Β Eyeless Jack from Slenderman who was looking pretty blue, a hacker, a magical pink fairyΒ and a couple of witch-like bossy teachers.

We went down to the hall and had a parade.Β  Every class had to dance round the hall and show off their costumes.
One person from every class was awarded Best Dressed and from our class it was Jazil, the Headless Zombie!!

Even the teachers dressed up!

Khadija came in full glam!!

The prize for the cutest person on Halloween was Audrey Brightman.
