Block One (August – December 2026)
Hello everyone!
Welcome to P7’s school page. We are so excited to be back and we are looking forward to a fantastic, final year ahead.
Here is what we have planned for Block 1:
- Class Charter:
Our school values are SAFE, READY and RESPECTFUL, so our class charter is linked to them. We have referenced the UNCRC and the Rights of the Child as we are working towards becoming a Rights Respecting School. We have discussed each of the school values, what they mean and how we can follow them. We will focus on them throughout the year, particularly when we use our iPads and when using ‘flexible seating’ in our classroom.
- Topic:
Our topic this block is “The World in Conflict/WW2”. We will be learning about conflict around the world, modern and historic. We will be taking a particular focus on Scotland’s involvement in these conflicts and the effect it has or could have.
Numeracy & Maths:
- Place value to billions
- Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division (carrying/exchange)
- 2d and 3d shape
- Information Handling

- Literacy:
Reading
Our class novel this block is “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” by John Boyne.
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a fictional story about a boy called Bruno whose father is a Commandant in the German army during World War II. Bruno moves house due to his father’s work and makes an unexpected friend in a young, camp prisoner. The book looks at their relationship and the extremely troubling environments they both find themselves in.
We will also have group readers which we will take home each week to read. Please ensure these are always in schoolbags as we need them to facilitate reading groups each day.
We are also very lucky to have a slot in our new and improved school library, where we can read for enjoyment.
In Writing we will be creating:
- Imaginative, descriptive stories
- posters
- fact files
- sets of instructions
- a variety of poems
In Listening and Talking we are focusing on listening skills, presentation skills and taking part in a Big Talk on applying for Leadership Roles (wb 31st August).

PE: Tuesday: indoor PE (Team/Ball games, football, social dancing, dance)
*Gym kit should be worn on this day (no crop tops, string tops, football strips, Uggs, crocs etc)

- Homework:
Our homework will consist of reading.
The reading homework will be written into the reading record, children are encouraged to be heard reading at home, even for a page, and their reading record should be signed by a parent/carer before being returned.
This will be sent out on a Friday and must be returned by a Wednesday.
The reading book should be returned to their schoolbag after it has been read as it must be brought into school every day for our reading groups.
- IPads/Transforming Learning
Please ensure that all IPads are charged for coming into school. We use them regularly and it can be very disruptive when they have no battery or are left at home. The children are responsible for looking after them and ensuring they have charge. We do understand that occasionally life gets in the way, but in this case, please send the charger with the IPad so that it can be charged in class while they work.
We also make it very clear to the children the expectations and rules regarding their use and will share our digital charter with you in due course. We appreciate your support with this.
