Block One (August – December 2026)
In Primary 3/4 we have a busy couple of terms ahead of us with lots of learning and exciting activities.
We began this year learning about how to demonstrate our school values and the responsibilities we have in the classroom, school and wider community. Our class charter is linked closely to the UN Rights of a Child. Here’s what we have planned for the rest of the block…
Topic:
Until the October holidays, we will be learning about Leven through ICT, literacy, STEM, expressive arts and social studies. From the October holidays until Christmas we will be learning about Planet Earth and Biological Systems.
Maths and Numeracy:
This block, we will be covering place value, the four operations, angle, symmetry, transformation and data handling. These will be learned through a combination of hands-on activities and written work.
Literacy:
Our current class novel is “The Nothing to See Here Hotel” by Steven Butler. We enjoy listening to this after break each day and will be using it to complete the literacy circle jobs – summariser, predictor, question master, illustrator and word wizard.
Each week we complete reading activities using our reading books.
We will be working to uplevel our sentences in writing using VCOP – vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation. We will also be completing writing pieces linked to Harvest. We will also have regular spelling and grammar lessons which can help with our writing too.
We have reading groups every week and visit the library so we can choose a book to read for enjoyment.
Health and Wellbeing
This term we are doing a bit of work on emotions. We will also cover “My Family / All Families are Different” (P3s) and “Safe and Happy Online” (P4s). More information on the specifics of these lessons can be found on the RSHP website – https://rshp.scot/first-level/
In P.E. we will be learning the skills associated with netball, gymnastics and dance. Our P.E. day is a Wednesday so children can come in P.E. kit on this day. This should not include football strips or crop tops.
Homework
Reading homework will be handed out on a Friday and is due back the following Wednesday. Please ensure this is back in by the Wednesday to give us a chance to complete the reading record before handing it back out.
Once you have read with your child at home and practised their tricky words (if applicable), please sign their reading record and leave a comment if you like.
More Information
We will be baking this block for Macmillan.
We will be helping to organise the Harvest assembly this term. The assembly will be on Thursday 8th October.
We will also be making crafts for the school fayre and learning songs for the Christmas concert after the October holidays.
