Block 1 (August – December 2026)
Hi and welcome to primary 1. We are a class of 24 children and can be found on the bottom floor in room 1. In primary 1, we are committed to being safe, ready and respectful and recognise this with our class recognition board and weekly certificates.
Our topic in term 1 is Mountfleurie and our topics in term 2 are Planet Earth and My Body. We ask questions about what we want to learn and Miss McComiskie includes these in her plans.
In numeracy, we are going to be working on recognising/making numbers in different ways, forming our numbers and counting. Later in the term, we will begin to work on addition. In maths, we are going to be focusing on shape and measurement.
In literacy, we are focusing on learning how to say, recognise and write our sounds. This is important so that we can learn how to read and write. Miss McComiskie also reads a story daily and we answer different types of questions about it.
Our PE day is a Thursday and children should aim to come to school dressed in their gym kit every week. We are going to begin with establishing routines in PE by playing some team building games and taking part in fitness activities. We will then move onto throwing and catching skills.
As part of our health and wellbeing learning, we will also be using the relationships, sexual health and parenthood (RSHP) resource. We hope any questions you have can be answered on the RSHP website: https://rshp.scot/early-level/. This term, we will focus on; Friends and Friendships and Playing Together, Being Kind.
In block 1, we get homework everyday to practise the sound we have learned in class. This helps us retain our sounds and improve our letter formation.
Every Friday, we will have a class meeting to discuss our highlights and lowlights of the week. We will also play some circle time games.
On a Wednesday morning, Mrs Ritchie will be in class from 9-10:40. She will bring us in in the morning and then teach music. Miss McComiskie is then back in class after break time.
We are looking forward to having a fantastic first block in P1!
