Block One (August – December 2026)

Block 1

In Primary 3 we have a very busy couple of terms ahead of us with lots of learning and fun.

Our gym day this year is a Tuesday so please come in PE kit on this day. This should not include football tops or crop tops.

We started this term with a focus on our rights and responsibilities, working together to create our class charter. We chose: the right to have friends, the right to be safe and the right to learn. We then decided that in our class it was important to: show kindness, tidy up and listen. We will continue to demonstrate these things alongside our school values!

This term, Primary 3 will be taking part in the Harvest Assembly with all primary 3 and 4. This will be on Thursday 8th October, parents and carers are invited and more information will be sent out nearer the time. We will be spending lots of time this term practising and preparing for this.

Topic

Our topics this block are Leven and Biological Systems. Through these topics, we will be covering Numeracy, Literacy, Health and Wellbeing, and Social Studies. We look forward to learning about a variety of different topics.

Numeracy and Maths

This block we will be focusing on: Place Value, Four Operations, Data Handling, Rounding, Angle, Symmetry and Transformation. We will also continue to revise all of our numeracy knowledge through board sums, and numeracy ga

Literacy

Our class novel is The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark. As we have the harvest assembly this term, we will be writing poems and descriptions linked to Harvest. In our writing we will continue to focus on uplevelling our vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation. We will also be using literacy circles to work on our understanding of texts as well as doing spelling and handwriting weekly. Each week we will do activities based on our reading books to deepen our understanding.

HWB: RSHP

In this block we will be covering My family/All our families are different. More information can be found here https://rshp.scot/first-level/

During this block we will be focusing on Netball, Gymnastics and dance. We will also regularly take part in the daily mile.

Homework

Homework will go out every Friday and should be completed by the following Wednesday. The homework will consist of a reading book and a reading record for you to sign and add a comment if you like.

Pupils who are reading books from our Oxford Reading Tree scheme (ORT) will also be provided with a word wall of common words for them to practise. Please can you ensure that your child brings their homework folder to school every day as we will need access to their reading book during class time to practise.
