Our Curriculum
In our nursery we follow the Curriculum for Excellence. This is used as a basis for planning as well as giving a structure for children’s individual personal learning journey.

Learning through play is at the centre of our nursery curriculum, recognising that children learn better from a variety of quality learning experiences. Children will be given the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities geared towards the all-round development of the individual child.
Encouraging independence and responsibility is a key aim of our Nursery. To achieve this, the children are encouraged to make a broad choice of activities from a selection carefully prepared by the staff and informed by our observations. Across their learning there is an aim to encourage children to become as independent as possible.
During their nursery time, children will have the opportunity to explore a variety of different learning experiences to promote the curricular areas which include: numeracy, literacy, health and wellbeing, science, expressive arts, technologies, social studies and religious and moral education. Through these opportunities children will gain personal achievement and skills for lifelong learning.
Each child brings with them their own character and personality; each child’s experience is unique and we appreciate they all have their own abilities, gifts and potential. We encourage all children to be ambitious with their learning.
In our Nursery we work to provide a safe, secure, caring and inclusive learning environment where children can develop their emotional well-being. Each child will have the opportunity to develop and be challenged at their own pace to allow them to have success.
Children have the choice to play independently and it is our job to observe, scaffold and facilitate the play to develop children’s’ interests, learning and imagination.
Children will have the opportunity to have ‘group time’ at different points throughout the week and children are encouraged to join in, however it is a choice. Group time is be responsive to meet the needs of the children. It is a flexible approach and if a child shows an interest in what another group are doing they are more than welcome to join them.
Children also have the right to make a choice whether they wish to join in activities in set areas. Children will be actively playing and learning from the minute they walk into our rooms until they leave.
Throughout the nursery there are key areas which you will see that are set up for the children to explore. This is known as the ‘Core Provision’.
