Music Team’s ‘Album of the Week’

ALBUM OF THE WEEK

This week our “Album of the Week” is ‘Elephant’ by The White Stripes

Elephant is the fourth studio album by the American Rock Duo ‘The White Stripes’ (Jack and Meg) and was released in 2003. The White Stripes set their own rules while they were recording this album: ten days in a non-modern studio. The liner notes include the disclaimer “No computers were used during the writing, recording, mixing, or mastering of this record”.

TRACK 1 – SEVEN NATION ARMY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDuzszjrdcc

‘Seven Nation Army’ features distorted vocals, a simple drum beat, and is driven by a bass-like riff which was created by playing a guitar through a ‘pitch shift’ effect (an octave effect to sound like a bass).

Does this 7 note guitar riff sound familiar? Listen to Anton Bruckner’s ‘Fifth Symphony’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gx3h3VKq5bA : hint: 0.58s).

Anti-bullying workshops

As part of our ongoing work on anti-bullying matters, all S3 pupils participated in workshops this week looking specifically at cyberbullying.

Led by the Fife Digital Learning Team, the sessions focused on the impact cyberbullying can have on an individual; encouraged pupils to discuss the impact, and asked our young people how the cyberbullying could be stopped.

These sessions really made our young people think about their own and others online behaviour.

Further advice about this matter can be found on the CEOPs supported website, Think U Know.

Mental Health Awareness Week

The S2 Business Enrichment classes would like to take the opportunity to ‘thank’ everyone who took part in last week’s events to promote Mental Health Awareness Week.

Special ‘thanks’ go to all of the staff – Ms Pour, Mr Ajeda, Mrs Jeffrey, Ms McArthur, Mr Lambrou, Mr Cameron, Mr McCarron, Mr Robb, Dr Sugden and Ms Stuart – who took part in the “Soak a teacher” event.  Everyone was fantastic!

The event raised a magnificent £784.90 which will now be divided between SAMH and CAMHS, two mental health charities.
