We were so lucky to have had 2 visiting authors for our class on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th November. On Monday we had a visit from Robert J Harris who wrote the Artie Doyle mysteries (amongst many others). We retold a fantasy story using props about Loki and Thor (another of his book series) and had many questions for him regarding his journey to becoming an author. He was fascinating and we are looking forward to reading more of his books.
On Tuesday we had a visit from Gill Arbuthnott who has also written a huge range of books, particularly based around science topics and history. She told us all about her most recent book ‘The Secret Diary Of The First World War’ about a very young soldier (14) in WW1 called James Marchbank. This is a true story and we were totally enthralled by his time during the war and again had many questions for Gill, who made the whole subject interesting and relevant! Thank you to both authors for their fantastic visits!
Open Morning
On Friday 5th October we welcomed our adults into the classroom to share all our learning from this term and watch our presentation. We showed off our fantastic technical line drawing of space shuttles and showed how accurately we had to measure
and use our rulers for precise drawings. Our adults were keen to see if they could do as well as us. Using our Space displays and all the facts around the classroom we tested our knowledge with some space quizzes and timelines. We also explained the recreation of Peter Thorpe’s inspired Space Art, displayed around our classroom and helped our adults create their own abstract backgrounds and space vehicles.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
On Friday 28th September our class were lucky enough to be invited to the Macmillan Coffee Morning run by S4’s in the Harris Hotel. We all gave a contribution towards the charity and enjoyed drinking tea/juice and eating lots of delicious cakes with our friends.
Peter Thorpe Space Art P4-7EM
In P4-7EM we have been exploring the art work of Peter Thorpe and tried to recreate his amazing abstract backgrounds and space vehicles using oil pastels, chalk and paint. We hope to show off our results on our Open Morning.
