BAE Systems – Work Experience

I am delighted to announce that BAE Systems Naval Ships WEX programmes are now open for applications. Join BAE Systems Maritime Naval Ships team for a one week work experience placement and earn a Silver Industrial Cadet Award. Our work experience placements will take place Monday to Thursday (9.00 -15.30) for pupils aged 16 -18 at either our Scotstoun and Govan sites. Students will spend time learning about BAE System’s apprentice programmes, the business and spend time in a workshop environment creating a project that they will then be asked to do a short presentation on. On this one week programme, students will develop their skills and experience through live face to face sessions and activities devised and delivered by our apprentices and engineers. From combat systems to environmental engineers, project managers and steelworkers, students will learn with experts in their fields, illustrating the impact they are making on the future of ship design and the wide range of career pathways open to students when they leave school. Students will work on an individual project and spend time with our early careers experts who will help them explore their strengths as well as school leaver opportunities. While students will have an opportunity to experience a range of BAE functions and crafts on all WEX programmes, the Scotstoun programmes will have a larger focus towards electrical, plumbing, pipe welding, sheet metal design and fabrication crafts. This is a reminder that the NHS Allied Healthcare Work Experience begins this Sunday 5th February. We strongly encourage students in years 10/S3/NI11 – 13/S6/NI14 considering healthcare to register ahead of this weekend. A strong record of work experience is crucial to all allied health careers, so we would be very grateful if you could forward this to your students. Engineering the Future for Girls 2023

Applications Open Monday 16th January 2023 The University of Strathclyde, in collaboration with BAM Nuttall, the Weir Group and West Fraser, are delighted to be offering the Engineering the Future for Girls programme for female school pupils in S3 in person again after two years hosting the programme virtually. 100 girls will be invited to attend from the 5th – 8th June  2023. The attached flyer provides an overview of the four-day programme and we ask that you bring this to the attention of S3 girls, particularly those that have a talent for mathematics or physical sciences. Participants will hear from staff at the University and colleagues from BAM Nuttall, the Weir Group and West Fraser who will provide an insight into studying and working in the field of engineering. They will also partake in a number of practical activities run by University of Strathclyde staff and engineers. The programme is fully-funded by BAM Nuttall, the Weir Group and West Fraser and all student costs, including a contribution towards travel costs, will be covered. The programme is non-residential and therefore pupils should be able to make their way each day to the Strathclyde University Campus in the heart of Glasgow City Centre. Teachers are not required to accompany pupils.  For the pupils’ convenience, we will arrange for Mentors to accompany pupils from and to Queen Street train station, Glasgow Central train station and Buchanan Bus Station at the start and end of each day. Environmental Sector – Work Experience

Change works and the Social Enterprise Academy have established a partnership to provide twelve young people from across Scotland with a week-long work experience in the green economy.  Changeworks & SEA Work Experience Week 2023 The work experience week is designed to provide insight into the wide range of work available in the environmental sector. Young people will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience that will inspire environmental responsibility and steps towards employment in the sector. The young people will interact with different departments across Change works, either undertaking practical work experience, or having the chance to talk to staff from the department about their role and pathways. The young people will also work together in groups on a research project into green jobs. At the end of the week, they will have the opportunity to present their project and share their findings.   The work experience will be virtual, with the possibility of a site visit in person on the last day. It is scheduled to run 13 – 17th of February 2023. The work experience will be available to twelve young people from across Scotland. Site visits will be co-ordinated in Edinburgh. The Social Enterprise Academy will select the young people who take part in the programme.
