Applications for the free National NHS Virtual Work experience programme have now opened for 2023-2024! This programme has supported over 30,000 secondary school students obtain free work experiences last year. Virtual work experiences have been accepted by the Medical Schools and Dental Schools Council as valuable alternatives to in-person shadowing, backed by the Health Education England Discovery report on the impact of virtual work placements. This programme is brought to you by Birmingham Universities Hospitals Trust in collaboration with Medic Mentor, and it is completely free. Not only is this a reliable alternative to in-person shadowing, but it also plays a significant role in preparing students for their in-person work placements with structured teaching and opportunities to speak directly with healthcare professionals. The opportunity is open to any student across the UK from 14 years old and above. Women in Engineering Programme is now open for Applications. This four day hybrid event will introduce candidates to the exciting world of engineering and the vast range of apprenticeships and careers available. British Airways Pilot Pathways Further to the success of our previous cadet schemes, we are thrilled to announce its successor the launch of the Speedbird Pilot Academy. This is a fully funded training scheme for up to 60 successful candidates working with selected Flight Training Organisations. Application criteria: At least 17 years of age to apply and 18 years of age to start training. 6 GCSEs grade A-C or 5-9 including Maths, English and a Science or equivalent qualifications Fluent in English (and, if applicable, an ICAO Level 6 on completion of training). For non-native English speakers, you will need to a certificate proving you have achieved International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Level 5.5 overall, with no less than 5.5 in any individual area (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking). This must be the Academic test, not General Training. A valid passport which permits unrestricted worldwide travel. Your height must be between 1.57m (5’2″) and 1.90m (6’3″). Height is accurately determined during the assessment process. If you’re taller than 1.90m, you may submit an application, but may be required to undergo a functionality check. Able to obtain and hold a UK CAA Class 1 medical with no restrictions and meet British Airways medical criteria. Before training starts, you must have completed referencing and pre-employment checks to the satisfactory standard and supply satisfactory UK and international Criminal Record Checks. About You Technical skills are important, but it’s your behaviours as a BA pilot that will really set you apart. You’ll need to demonstrate the passion and motivation to excel during the training programme, the ability to remain calm under pressure and a strong ability to solve problems. During the 4 year programme you will be employed by George Leslie Ltd., a civil engineering contractor based in Barrhead. George Leslie Ltd. operate across Scotland in a variety of sectors including marine, railways, roads and bridges, and renewables. While developing your professional practice in the workplace, you will study at UWS’ Paisley campus one day per week gaining knowledge in core Civil Engineering subjects including structural design, water resource engineering, construction materials, hydraulics and construction management.
