Health Week

During Health week pupils are invited to wear appropriate sports wear.

Monday: Bookbug Bootcamp (parents welcome)

Tuesday: Dance session 

Wednesday: Fruit kebab making

Thursday: Sports Day

In addition to these pupils will learning:

◇how to look after their bodies (God’s Loving Plan)

◇considering how to behave in times of change (P2 to P3 transition preparation)

And many more exciting activities.

 

Due to Health week there will be no homework.

Health-and-Wellbeing-Family-Learning-Activity (1)

Well done to all the pupils who completed the Whole school homework. Mrs Hemphill was over the moon to hear that some pupils showed off their food preparation schools by helping their mum and dads in the kitchen.

Class Homework 

Tuesday to Friday – Literacy and Numeracy homework has been assigned on Education city.

Easter Mass

This Wednesday 10am St. Mark’s and St. John’s Primaries will gather at St. John’s, Barrhead to celebrate an Easter Mass.  All welcome, if you are available to walk with the school please contact the office.

St. Mark’s Mass

This Thursday 11am the whole school will celebrate the Feast of St. Mark.

Child Led Learning

This week pupils had the opportunity to make play dough with partners. Pupils followed instructions to make the play dough independently using measuring skills. This sparked an interesting discussion about sharing equally.

Pupils also explored symmetry and length.

Birthday Celebrations

Happy Birthday to Isla, everyone enjoyed sitting in the sunshine with a little piece of Birthday cake.

Fairtrade

Primary 2 looked at different chocolate bars and made their own eye catching chocolate bars. These have been given in to our local COOP, thanks to Mr Mariner for arranging this.

Every bar needed to include the Fairtrade symbol and the COOP.

Whole School Homework – British Science Week

Sumdog Competition 

The East Renfrewshire Sumdog competition finishes on Thursday. There are currently 173 classes entered. Well done to the pupils who have been taking part at home!

Fairtrade Talk

We had a visitor today in Primary 2 to tell us a little more about our topic, Fairtrade.  One of our parents, Mr Mariner, is an employee of Co-op supermarket which sells a large range of Fairtrade products and is involved in many Fairtrade projects.

He told us about the lives of farmers and their families in other countries, and how we can help them by buying the Fairtrade products they produce.

He brought with him a selection of Fairtrade products his supermarket sells such as tea, coffee, sugar, chocolate, bananas and even cotton wool.

As a treat for listening to his presentation so well he gave all the children a cookie with Fairtrade chocolate chips and  a Fairtrade banana each to take home.

British Science Week

Journeys and Transport was the theme for 2019. In a nod to Science week Primary 2 were provided opportunities to think about different transport, from trains, planes to spaceships. Here is what they got up to…

 

Fairtrade Coffee Morning

The final preparations for our Fairtrade Coffee Morning is complete.  We’ve decorated our biscuits, written our presentation and even rehearsed some entertainment.

Preparing

On Friday Mr Mckenna and groups of P2a and P2b pupils prepared our biscuit mixture.  Following the recipe below using Fairtrade ingredients where possible.

Baking

Miss Mckay baked the biscuits from frozen. They are now ready for P2 to decorate.

Coffee Morning

Our coffee morning is on Friday 8th March at 10am.  Come and along to hear about Fairtrade and enjoy some delicious baking. All donations of baking will be happily received.

Science

We are working on the investigating types of water. We investigate melting and freezing today.  We melted ice and used ice to freeze milk. Click the link below if you would like to try this at home, with an adult.

Farmer Visit

On Thursday Sheila visited us to tell us about her life as a farmer. We found out she had 80highland cows and over 1000 sheep. We heard how she had a very busy day looking after the animals, keeping them safe and healthy.

Beat the Street

Beat the Street commences on Friday. Pupils will received their fobs on Thursday.

It’s a fun, free game that will see Barrhead and Newton Mearns transformed into a giant game! See how far you can walk, cycle and run in just 6 weeks.

No Whole School homework 

Atrium: Imagination and Collaboration

There was lots of imaginative ideas from a skyscraper with shops and houses to magic wands and candle shops.

Health and Wellbeing 

Today we continued our health and wellbeing focus of Friendship. The focus was the having more than one friend.  After hearing about Twiggle’s Special Day, we worked with a partner and completed a task which involved working together and sharing.

Foundry Visit

On Tuesday we collected our new library books. Our aim is that these library books will encourage children to read for enjoyment. Every child selected their own book. Pupils were encouraged to choose a book for enjoyment which they could confidently read.

The books will be collected in March to return these to the Foundry.

PE

We are working on stretch and strength in PE. We found press ups tricky but two P6 boys kindly offered to demonstrate.
