Week Beginning 7th January 2019

Welcome back  to Term 2! I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable winter break.  Check out what we will be doing this term on the P2B information page.

This week we are working on getting back into routine at school.  A new homework jotter was handed out with a new homework overview and pupils logins for Education City and Sumdog.

Pupils also have a planning sheet to talk to their families about our topics this term: Weather, Farming and Fairtrade!  When planning a topic, pupils share their knowledge and ideas to ensure we provide learning opportunities which target their interests. By discussing these at home first we will be able to have a really engaging discussion in class.

Pupils Leading Learning planning sheet

We will continue to have PE on a Wednesday and Friday and I would encourage pupils to bring their kits back in as soon as possible. Remember we love PE and don’t like to miss it, so even if it’s wet or cold we try to get outside. Therefore it’s important to have suitable outdoor clothing for PE in the MUGA on a Friday.

St. Luke’s Sports Leaders will be working with Primary 2B on Monday 14th, 21st and the 28th January.

This week we also started working on Fractions and Money.

For Golden time this week, pupils could

  • play Science Games about living and non living things on Education City
  • make and decorate crowns to mark Epiphany (6th January 2019)

Week beginning 8th October 2018

Over the next 3 weeks the homework will focus on a variety of curricular areas.

P2 Homework Activities October

My Family

We have been looking at toys from the past. Last week we looked at toys which we still play with which our grandparents might have also played with. On Monday we designed and made kites. We tested them outside as it was a windy day, perfect for flying a kite!

Hail Mary

Primary 2 have been learning the Hail Mary this month to mark October. October is traditionally the month of the Rosary. Pupils wrote their own personal copy of the Hail Mary and took these home to practise.

Week beginning 24th Sept 2018

This week we started our new topic ‘My Family’. This topic will explore the past and present. Pupils will compare their own life’s with the childhood of their grandparents. Over the next few weeks we will be looking at how school, toys, hobbies and other things have changed.

Also this week we have been working on recognising tens and units. This is a really good skill to master as we work with larger numbers.  We used concrete materials to visualise the numbers.

On Wednesday we celebrated European Languages day, Mrs Dziobek spoke to Primary 2b and shared how to say Hello in Polish.

Finally on Friday afternoon we had great fun taking part in our chosen activities. This week’s activities included:

  • using the chromebooks
  • creating a collage
  • making playdough

Another super week in Primary 2b.

Week beginning 17th Sept 2018

This week we have been working on counting in 2’s. We used different materials to make  groups of 2.

Also this week we worked with Mrs Nelson to discuss her work on developing the playground. We walked around the playground and discussed things that we would like. We drew our own designs of the playground including balancing ropes, climbing frames, a climbing wall and even a zip wire! Finally we wrote letters to Mrs Nelson sharing our ideas and opinions. We can’t wait to see how the playground will be developed over the next year.

Maths Week

This week marks the national celebration of Maths. During the week we have been working on recognising our left and right.
We have been using pom poms to help us with our number bonds.
We listened to a story about a caterpillar who gave away his many pairs of shoes.  We counted the number of shoes he gave away to each insect and then wrote a story retelling his kind act.
Finally on Friday we had a really exciting House afternoon. We worked in teams with friends and family from other classes to problem solve. We had to read clues very carefully and explore the school to find the answers.  We loved the opportunity to work with our brothers and sisters and would like to do this more often.

PE

Pupils should participate in 2 hours of PE each week.  Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday.  On a Wednesday our PE takes place in the Gym hall. On a Friday we go outside to the Muga for PE, therefore pupils must try to bring in appropriate clothing for being outside.

Indoor kit required:

  • black plimsolls
  • black shorts
  • either a red/white/yellow t-shirt

Outdoor kit required:

  • trainers (old ones which can be kept in school)
  • black joggers
