Ahoy there!

There has been lots of pirate chat this week in P1C.

To start the week off, our imagination drove our need to build a shelter after our pirate ship sank due to horrible weather in the oceans, thankfully we found some land and we began our quest to make shelter. We worked very well as a team to achieve our end goal. There was lots of fabulous imaginative play going on!

We have been exploring 2D shapes. We have been studying their properties and comparing similarities and differences. We have also been spotting them around our classroom.

Throughout this week we continues to practise our sounds as well as learn some new ones.  We have been finding pictures that begin with the same sound. We have also been practising to form the letters by following the correct route.

This week we have also been playing with and exploring sand! We have been building sandcastles and searching for hidden gems.

Some of the children asked to make a map for the pirates so we started the process of making our very own pirate maps by staining plain paper with tea bags! This makes them look really old.  It was very messy but  fun!!

Today we made a very exciting find in our garden.  One of the children spotted a caterpillar on one of the plants. On closer inspection we realised that the plant was full of them.  They were hard to see because they were camouflaged. They were  busy eating the leaves. We talked about being careful around the plant and making signs to tell people not to touch the caterpillars. We cant wait to see what happens to them. We wonder if they will still be there on Tuesday when we come back to school. We will keep you updated!

Have a lovely long weekend everyone!

P for pompoms!!

We have had another fun packed week in Primary 1C!
We have been exploring  sounds in lots of different ways and listening for sounds at the beginning of words (alliteration).
For ‘p’, we painted with pompoms!

We became investigators looking into our other sound ‘i’ by searching for insects in our garden.

A large empty box prompted lots of creativity! We used our imagination to turn the box into a space shuttle, a train and a truck!

We have had lots of fun with numbers thinking of what comes before and after. Some of us even got the chance to be the teacher and ask the questions!!

This week we continued to learn about our sense of sight but what it would be like to have super sight. We looked closely at flowers and what we could find inside along with searching and finding some insects that are ‘even cooler’ when close up!!

Sounds, scissor skills, sorting and spies!

It has been another busy week of learning in P1C.

In Numeracy and Mathematics we have been exploring numbers up to 20 and beyond through lots of different activities. We learnt the story of ‘naughty nine’ and have been practising to write this number.

We have been so busy learning our sounds. Our first sound of this week was ‘s’! We learnt all about this sound and listened to see if we could hear it at the start of words such as snake, sun, smile!

Learning about the sound ‘t’ inspired some if us to build a tall tower!!

There has been lots of opportunities for us to develop our cutting skills.

The weather on Thursday did not stop us from having fun in our garden. We went on a hunt in the garden to find lots of different objects.  We sorted them  into bundles of the same colour and spotted all the different shades of colour that we had found.

The play and exploration continued around our room .  A new set of sand timers prompted discussion about different lengths of time.
A new set of clipboards inspired a game of ‘spies’ with lots of fantastic mark making!!!

Rhyming,

We have had another great week of learning in P1C! We have explored syllables and rhyming in Literacy and have continued to learn about the Numbers in our Number Zoo in Numeracy. We have enjoyed creating pictures of our number zoo animals, practicing our number formation and playing different rhyming games.

We have also enjoyed practicing our gross motor skills, making sand pies and rescuing the pirate treasure in our P1 garden.

Our story of the week has been ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas which explores how you can be feeling at different points of the day. It prompted some great discussion about times when we feel a certain way and it was lovely to see the boys and girls sharing their experiences with one another.

Smiles in P1C after a great week of learning!
