Nativity, Party and More!

The highlight of our week was performing our wonderful nativity for our grown-ups. We worked so hard learning all our lines, songs and stage directions. I am so proud of all the boys and girls and how amazing they were on Monday! It was great to be able to perform our show and see each smiley face on the stage. Well done P1C!

We have been learning about the story of the Nativity and enjoyed making the manager out of metal loose parts. Look how amazing they are!

We also enjoyed making our own igloos out of sugar cubes.

Outdoors we loved making Santa’s sleigh using all the large loose parts. We think Santa would love to use our cool sleighs too!

We have also enjoyed making our Christmas cards, we thought about who we would like to send them too and took great care when making our snowmen. We also made our own elf tree decoration  were we enjoyed colouring them different colours and adding on different gems and pom poms.

We had a great end to our week with our Christmas party, where we had lots of fun playing games, dancing and eating yummy snacks but the best part was getting to meet our special guest who gave us a present!

Number Bonds, Nativity and More in P1C!

We have had another busy week in P1C! We had a new teacher join our class called Mr Javid and he will be with us unitl next Friday. We have been enjoying showing him our class and all our wonderful learning.

Outdoors this week, we enjoyed creating different obstacle courses and directing our partners through them. We has use directions like forward 5, turn left and right. We had so much fun and created amazing obstacle courses.

We have been continuing to learn about addition and our number bonds to 10 and are becoming really fast at identifying them!

We have been working hard learning our new sounds this week. We have also been learning how to sequence the events in the story and have been drawing what happens at the beginning, middle and end of our reading books. We have also been enjoying playing bingo where have to match the picture with the word, this lets us practice our blending skills and we love shouting BINGO! when our board is full.

We have been working so hard on our nativity! We performed our nativity for our P6 buddies and loved getting to showcase our great singing and acting! We can’t wait to show you on Monday!

 

 

Another Busy Week in P1C!

This week we had a special delivery and we have had two new elves join our classroom, thankfully they haven’t been too naughty yet! We had a class vote and decided to name them Mr.Jingles and Alfie.

This week we have been busy learning our new sounds, ch, sh and th. We have enjoyed doing lots of different activities to help learn our sounds and we also enjoyed writing about our elves.

In Maths, we have been learning about money and we have been learning to order coins from smallest to biggest, sort coins and make different amounts of money. We have also been learning about addition and we have been exploring the different ways we can make numbers using lots of different materials to help us.

Outdoors this week, we enjoyed comparing and ordering different items by size.

For road safety week, we enjoyed spotting different dangers when crossing the road and thought about ways we can be safe when crossing the road. We also used our cycle track to practice crossing the road safely.

We have been hard at work practicing our nativity and we can’t wait for you to see it. Well done for all your hard work this week P1C have a lovely weekend 🙂

Pizza Making in P1C!

This week, we made some tasty pizzas to help develop our understanding of halves. While we were preparing our pizzas, we spoke about trying new foods and how some of our friends or family may eat different foods from us. We made sure that we were very careful when we were chopping our vegetables and we also had to think carefully about where we were cutting our vegetables so that we had equal halves. All the pizzas looked yummy and I am sure they tasted as good as they looked! We have also been enjoying a range of other activities to help us identify halves.

 

Outdoors this week as it was very icy so we decided to go on an ice hunt. We found lots of ice and create ice cream, ice painting and looked at the different ways we could make the ice melt quickly. We also enjoyed creating different landmarks outdoors as well.

In Literacy, we are working hard using our sounds to help read and build words. We have also been working hard identifying our common words in our reading books and we have been enjoying lots of activities to help us identify and read our common words.

Some pupils from Primary 6  came down to talk to us about the work they have been carrying out as part of anti bullying week. They explained to us about the importance of being kind and they helped us to send a thank you note to somebody who been kind to us.

In PE, we have been working on our racket skills and have been enjoying playing lots of different games to help us develop our racket skills.

Book Week Scotland in P1C!

We have had a great week celebrating Book Week Scotland. We enjoyed reading ‘One Button Benny’ by Alan Windram. We enjoyed creating Benny’s new emergency vehicle outside using loose parts, we had lots of amazing designs! We also created a new robot sidekick for Benny and wrote about Benny’s sidekick.

We also enjoyed reading the books from our book bug bags. We drew our favourite woodland animal from the book ‘My First Book of Woodland Animals’ and found out interesting facts about the animal we selected.

After reading ‘Arlo-The lion who couldn’t sleep’  by Catherine Ryan we decided to paint our favourite place.

We also enjoyed hearing our P6 buddies read different stories to us.

We had a great visit to the Library, we loved getting our bookbug bags and hearing the stories from our bags.

We decided to create our own book covers outside for our favourite books. To help us, we designed our cover before we went outside and looked in the woodland to find different materials to use.

It has been a great week celebrating all things books!

Another Great Week in P1C!

This week outdoors we were finding materials outside to make pictures with. We found things like grass, mud and sand to make our beautiful pictures.


 We read the book  ‘Winston of Churchill, One Bears Battles Against Global Warming’ and this gave us a good insight into global warming. We have decided to make some changes in our classroom and we made pledges  that we will, use both sides of the paper, recycle old toys, bin all rubbish and recycle. We also explored the properties of water and noticed how quickly ice melted when we added water or held it in our hands. This helped us to understand what was happening to the polar bears ice. We have been doing a great job of carrying out our pledges!   

We enjoyed using our knowledge of 2D shapes to make our very own shape pizzas, they looked so yummy!

We have also been practicing identifying numbers before and after. Creating numicon monsters and making 2D shapes using pom poms.

In Literacy, we have been working hard on all our sounds and our common words. In our reading books we were set a challenge to find one common one and anytime we found it we had to cover it up.

Here are some more highlights from the week.

Next week is book week Scotland and we will be looking at the story ‘One Button Benny’ and we will be doing some ‘STEM-A-Story’ challenges throughout the week based on the book. Could I please ask that you send in any ‘junk’ modelling materials like cardboard boxes or plastics bottles on Monday. It would be hugely appreciated.

Diwali, Patterns and More!

This week we have enjoyed learning about Diwali. Our story of the week has been ‘The Best Diwali Ever’ by Sonali Shah and this has given us great insight into how Diwali is celebrated. We enjoyed creating lots of rangoli patterns outside using chalk and natural materials. We also enjoyed creating rangoli patterns using rice. We also had great fun creating our own henna design using piping bags and paint to help us.

We learnt three new sounds this week and continue to consolidate all of our sounds using lots of different activities to help us.  We have also been learning to sequence the events in our stories and have been practising  our common words.

We have also been busy creating different patterns using loose parts and making our own pattern bracelets.

Outdoors we also looked at comparing sizes, we found different items and but them in order of size.

In PE, we have been enjoying playing possession games and working on object control.

We also created our own bonfire themed artwork using forks and cotton buds.

Another great highlight of the week was ‘break the rules’ day!

Patterns, Pumpkins and Potions!

We have had another busy week of learning. Outdoors  we took our maths outside and had great fun creating patterns using lots of different items. Some of our patterns even created great obstacle courses for us all to try. We also enjoyed making spooky potions and poisonous hot chocolate!

We have been learning our new sounds and completing lots of activities to help us remember all of them. 

We have also been using our sounds to make words and short sentences.

We have been exploring the days of the week, months of the year and the seasons. We have enjoyed identifying the features of each season and sorting items into the correct season.

We have started to write our own helicopter stories and have had great fun acting them out on our class stage.

We have also been busy in  our areas painting pumpkins, creating wonderful houses and spooky castles. Here are some highlights from our week.

Marble Run Adventures and More!

We had great fun in our outdoor garden this week solving different problems. We especially enjoyed creating a marble for our balls. Our creation were super and we had such good fun working together to solve different problems.

We have been creating our own number lines using cubes and paint. We have also been working really hard identifying numbers before and after using number fans to help to show our answers.

We have been hard at work practising all our sounds, blending words and reading tricky words.

It has been great hearing all the boys and girls adventures from their October Holidays. They have also been so keen to show me what they have been learning with Miss Faull, which has been wonderful to see. I am so proud of all their super work!  We decided this week that our room needed a little change! We worked together to come up with some ideas of how to make our classroom better and we decided to move some of our areas around, as you can see we are loving our new areas!

The rain didn’t stop us!

It has been another busy week in P1C.
This week we have explored three new sounds. We explored the sounds ‘m’, ‘d’ and ‘r’.

Despite the rain, we got all wrapped up and ready to make our  perfumes in the garden! So many smells all around us and we voted on our favourite! It smelt minty and fresh. We really enjoyed learning about our sense of smell!
