P7 Confirmation Information
St Joseph’s Primary & OLM Primary
Thursday 9th May 2019 7pm
St Mirin’s Cathedral, Paisley
Dear Parent/Guardian,
I hope you found the last information letter useful to help in preparing for the forthcoming Confirmation.
The P7 pupils have now completed research on their Confirmation saints and committed to receiving the Sacrament at the dedicated Mass that took place in December.
WHAT’S NEXT?
If your child has not already chosen a sponsor, he/she should do so now and advise their teacher of who this is by 18/01/19 so that we can complete the required paperwork. (Please note – sponsors should be 16+, a practising Catholic and someone other than the candidate’s parent)
SPIRITUAL PREPARATION Pupils will participate in a P7 spiritual retreat at St Joseph’s Church on Monday 25 February 2019. They will also be able to attend Confession in school on 25/03/19 It is recommended that families and Sponsors also take the opportunity to attend Reconciliation before the Confirmation and perhaps arrange for your child to do so at some point during the weeks prior to Confirmation.
WHERE DO CHILDREN & SPONSORS GO?
Candidates and Sponsors must be in the Cathedral Halls before 6.30pm. Diocesan staff and teachers will meet them there, take register and ensure pupils have name badges
WHAT ABOUT FAMILIES?
Family members/guests should make their way directly to the Cathedral.
All congregation members must be seated and ready by 6.50pm
*A reminder that due to the numbers involved, suggestion from the Diocesan office is that 5 guests per family attend. (including sponsor)
PUPIL/SPONSOR PROCESSION The procession into the Cathedral will begin by 6.45pm, pairing of child and sponsor within each school group. (Before the ceremony, children will know their place in school procession (1, 2 etc) and should inform their sponsor)
Pews will be labelled on either side of aisle with school name. St Joseph’s children will be seated on right side (pulpit side); sponsors seated correspondingly on left
We will continue to prepare pupils in school for receiving this Sacrament both spiritually and practically and we ask that you also continue to support your child at home, eg you could ensure that your child knows key prayers such as those overleaf.
Yours sincerely
K Wynne (Depute Head)
Confiteor
I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary, ever-Virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.,
The Gloria Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great Glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.
AMEN.
