Sky Academy Skills Studios – Primary 7a – Tuesday 20th October

On Tuesday 20th, our Primary 7a children will be attending Sky Academy Skills Studios. Pupils will go behind the scenes on an exclusive tour and get the chance to work with all the latest technology to make their own TV report in the Sky Skills Studios. Primary 7a’s topic is ‘Participation in Sport’. It is necessary that you read and complete ALL 3 attached documents and return to the class teacher no later than 14th October.The children will leave the school and travel by coach to Livingston at 8.10am and therefore must be brought to school and be in class by no later than 8.am.There will be a charge of £4 to cover part of transport costs.

  • Full school uniform to be worn, shirt, tie, school shoes
  • Packed lunch required

Aid for Refugees

Dear Parent/Carer,

You will all be aware of the current plight of refugees, mainly from Syria, and the efforts made to send aid to charitable or aid organisations to support families who now find themselves in great need of help.  Councillor Waters is co-ordinating aid to those who are held in refugee camps in Calais and he is organising a convoy which leaves later on this month.  Continue reading Aid for Refugees

First Friday Mass – Primary 7

Weather permitting; Primary 7 classes will attend Mass in St. Vincent’s Church, Thornliebank on Friday 2nd October at 10am.
We shall leave from school at 9.30am accompanied by members of staff and will return at 11.00am.The children will walk to/from church via a local route alongside Woodfarm High School and through parkland, thus avoiding any major road crossings.
Full school uniform, shirt, tie, school shoes
Children to dress appropriately for the weather conditions of the day.
Parent helpers  are welcome to assist.

Edinburgh Zoo – P4

Over the past few weeks our Primary 4 pupils have been working on a Conservation topic as part of their Global Citizenship block.  They have focused on Deforestation, Over Hunting, Global Warming and Pollution.The children will be attending a workshop on Endangered Animals whilst at the Zoo.
Classes will leave from the school 09.15am and return at 2.50pm.

  • Cost of trip is £7 to include the workshop and part of transport costs, the remainder being subsidised by the PSA
  • School uniform to be worn
  • Packed lunch, labelled, in a plastic bag for ease of disposal

If there are any changes to medical conditions/medications from the medical consent form you completed at the beginning of this session, please inform the school office.

Lockerbie Manor Meetings

The meeting for parents of Primary 6 children who will be going to Lockerbie Manor in October 2016 will take place on Tuesday 22nd September 6.30 -7.30 in school hall.
The meeting for Primary 7 children going to Lockerbie Manor in November this year will take place on Tuesday 20th October in school hall 6.30 – 7.30

Visit by Primary 7 to Lockerbie Manor 2016

Following a very successful week with last year’s Primary 7’s to Lockerbie Manor and looking forward to our visit in November with our current Primary 7, we have managed to secure the week beginning Monday 17th October – Friday 21st October inclusive in 2016 for our present Primary 6.There will be an initial meeting for parents in school, on Tuesday 22nd September from 6.30pm-7.30pm, to outline the programme for the week. We value our annual residential trip as an integral part of our Primary 7 Personal, Social Development programme, as our children prepare for the transition from Primary to Secondary School. The cost for the visit is £260 to include transport, accommodation, activities and all meals. Pupils are required to bring a sleeping bag.

A deposit of £50 per child is required to secure the booking. This has to be paid by Friday 25th September 2015. This can be paid online via the school website from today or in school, by cash or cheque made payable to East Renfrewshire Council.

Payments can continue to be made online at any time or alternatively, in school on a monthly basis, on the last Friday of the month, from October – June 2016. The balance must be paid by the end of August 2016.If there are any parents who are in receipt of benefits or indeed anyone who requires assistance, I would ask them to contact me. Enquiries of this kind will be dealt with confidentially.

VOCATIONS MASS – St Mirin’s Cathedral –Wednesday 16th September

On Wednesday 16th September, the feast of St Ninian of Scotland, our Primary 7 children will be joining Primary 7 children from other schools in St Mirin’s Cathedral, Paisley, to celebrate the annual Vocations Mass with Bishop John Keenan. This mass will begin the children’s journey of preparation for being involved in the Rite of Enrolment in December and receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation during Eastertide. We shall leave the school at 10am and return at 12.30pm.We would be delighted if some parents could accompany us. Please complete the tear off slip below and return only if you are able to assist. Parents will then be notified if they will/will not be accompanying us on the trip.

CONFIRMATION EASTERTIDE 2016

As you know, the children will soon begin their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation which will take place in April, during the weeks of Eastertide. Children belonging to St Joseph’s parish or those who made their First Communion there can be confirmed in St Mirin’s Cathedral, Paisley. Children belonging to St Vincent’s and Holy Name parish can be confirmed in their own parish. For those children who were confirmed in Primary 4, I am sure their studies this year will deepen their understanding of the sacrament.  Your child will be very welcome to join one of the masses and receive a blessing.  Also, if your child has not made any of the sacraments, we would be very happy for your family to join us and your child can receive a blessing if you wish. If you have any questions around the reception of the sacrament, please do not hesitate to contact me.Please find attached a date for St Joseph’s parents to attend a Confirmation information evening with Father Jim. (only for children being Confirmed in St Mirin’s Cathedral)

Meet the teacher

There will be an opportunity for you to meet your child’s new teacher on Thursday 3rd September between 6 and 7pm. This informal event will enable you to see your child’s new class and obtain a n overview of the curriculum for the year.

There will not be an opportunity to discuss individual progress on this evening. This can be done through contacting the school office at any time or at formal Parent’s evenings which will take place on the 7th and 8th October.

 

New Wall: Eastwood Park Allotments

There is a new wall being built at the allotments in Eastwood Park. Work begins on Monday 8th June and will continue until week beginning 23rd June. Parking restriction and movements of traffic at the junior department and Glenwood Nursery will be affected and car users should make necessary alternative arrangements to avoid congestion.

Sports Day – Thursday 11th June

Sports day will be held on Thursday 11th June in the adjacent Woodfarm playing fields.
Primaries 1 & 2 – 9.30
Primaries 3 & 4 – 11.00
Primaries 5 – 7 – 1pm
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 11th.
Children should come to school dressed in P.E. kit, ready for Sports Day.
No football tops please. We would encourage children to wear house colours
If it rains heavily on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, Sports Day will be moved indoors and unfortunately there will be no room for spectators
