Confirmation Guidelines for Parents November 2013
Confirmation completes Baptism, unites us more firmly to Christ, confers the special strength of the Holy Spirit for the witness of Christian life, and imprints a spiritual seal or indelible character on the soul such that, like baptism, this Sacrament is received only once.
Gifts of the Holy Spirit
In the Rite of Confirmation, the bishop implores God to send the Holy Spirit with his gifts on the candidates who are to be confirmed:
Wisdom, understanding, right judgment, courage, knowledge, reverence and wonder and awe.
Fruits of the Holy Spirit
The Fruits of the Holy Spirit are listed in Sacred Scripture as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Candidates for Confirmation are to be led to understand that the Holy Spirit comes in Confirmation to make them more like Jesus Christ and to help them, as children of God, give witness to the Lord.
Confirmation Name
It is customary for children to choose a saint’s name for Confirmation as a sign of the new birth and identity they receive in Christ. This custom is to be encouraged since the saints are those, who, having received the gifts of the Holy Spirit, have shown the fruits of the Spirit in the witness of a good and holy life. Towards the time of Confirmation, the saints chosen by the children will be invoked regularly as part of a “Litany of the Saints” in class prayer times.
Sponsor
Candidates will choose a Sponsor for Confirmation. The Sponsor, who represents the whole Church in the faith formation of the candidate, must be over 16years old and a practising Catholic in full communion with the Church.
The immediate preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation should include the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Families are encouraged to take the children to the sacrament. We hope to take the children on a one day retreat to allow a time for reflection.
It is especially to be borne in mind that the centre of the Sacraments of
Initiation is the Eucharist. One of the marks and obligations of the fully initiated Catholic is full, active and conscious participation at Sunday Mass. Young Catholics must fulfil the serious obligation to participate at Sunday Mass so that the Eucharist will be at the centre of a full Christian life.
Further information will be sent home during our preparations for this great sacrament. Please look at the school website for a reflective power point from Mary O’Duffin, RE Advisor for primary schools, Glasgow Archdiocese.
Confirmation Rite of Enrolment 23rd/24th November ST Joseph’s Church
There will be a short Rite of Enrolment during all masses on the weekend of 23rd/24th November in St. Joseph’s Church. This is for all children who will be receiving the sacrament of Confirmation in St. Mirin’s Cathedral on 1st May 2014.
Parents should bring their child to any Mass and ideally sponsors should attend, if they live locally. Father will address the parents, sponsors, children and then the parish community asking that we all work together to support the children in their preparation to receive the Holy Spirit.
Children should wear their own clothes, NOT school uniform.
The children will be writing a letter to Fr. David Boyd, Diocesan Administrator, asking to receive the sacrament. They will outline the reasons why they have chosen their saint’s name as an inspiration in their daily lives. They will present this letter to Fr. Jim at the Mass.
We will send home the letter at the end of next week to be counter signed by parents, please remember to take it with you to Mass.
Reminder of Mass times in St. Joseph’s Church – Vigil 6pm, 10am 12pm and 6pm
If you have any questions regarding Confirmation, please call Mrs. Dowling.
We look forward to seeing you at one of the Masses.

The winner was Erin McC from P6d, Second place went to Niamh B P7b and third place to Rebecca McI in P4b. Well done to all finalists! The brilliant banners (pictured below) can also be seen on our Road Safety Noticeboard in the MENSA area. Look out for the banners taking pride of place in our car park soon!

Update on Robslee Campus
An update had been received from F. Morrison. This stated that Donald Gillies has now left his post and has been replaced by Raymond O’Kane. It explained that the work proposed to join the two campuses will be carried out on a design and build contract. It was noted that the Parent Council and the school would wish to be involved in any decisions that were made in relation to this. It is envisaged that work will begin in December 2013, but preparatory ground work will begin over the summer. It is still uncertain where the council will award the contract. It was hoped that Callum Houston and Maurice Hickey, parents in the school, would be involved in the process. The link is due to be completed by August 2014. There is also uncertainty about the costing and what additional funds might be required to complete the enclosed link, which is going ahead. C. Jamieson said that he would remain in contact with F. Morrison during this process of awarding the contract and would continue to pass on the school’s input. Cllr Wallace indicated that there is money in the council’s capital budget for the link and in response to A. Forsyth’s query about the cost being in excess of the budget, he said that if that were the case extra money may be found. Continue reading June 2013 Parent Council Minutes

Parent Council November 2013 Newsletter
Dear Parent/Carer
October devotions and Rosary were very well attended throughout the month, organised by our staff Liturgy Group. Thanks to Mrs Baird, Mrs Collins and Miss Kane for leading the children during lunch times. We are now in the month of November offering our prayers as a school community for those whom we know who have died, entrusting them to God’s heavenly care. Confirmation St.Mirin’s Cathedral 2014
Confirmation will take place on Thursday 1st May 2014 in St Mirin’s Cathedral, Paisley at 7.00pm.
There will be an initial meeting for parents next Monday night,
4th November at 7.00pm in St. Joseph’s Church, Clarkston.
Fr Jim will outline the programme and guidelines for the reception of the sacrament.
All parents and sponsors are encouraged to attend. Please don’t worry if your child’s sponsor lives some distance away and can’t make this meeting.
CONFIRMATION EASTERTIDE 2014
As you know the children will soon begin their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation which will take place during the weeks of Easter around the beginning of May.
Children belonging to St. Joseph’s parish, or those who made their First Communion there, can be confirmed in St. Mirin’s Cathedral Paisley.
Children belonging to St. Vincent’s and Holy Name parish can be confirmed there.
For those children who were confirmed in Primary 4, I am sure their studies this year will deepen their understanding of the sacrament. Your child will be very welcome to join one of the masses and receive a blessing. Also, if your child has not made any of the sacraments, we would be very happy for your family to join us and your child can receive a blessing if you wish.
