Athletics

Congratulations to the following athletes who took part in the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday:

S2 Holly Still

S2 Rebecca Gray

S3 Rebecca Saxby

S2 Ross Gray

S6 David Clarke

All athletes ran superbly well but special mention must go to Holly Still and Rebecca Saxby who came 5th and 8th respectively in the Girls’ Group C race.  This also means that the girls have been selected to run for Scotland in the forthcoming Home International at Strathallan at the end of March.  This is an outstanding achievement!  Well Done!

Sports Coaching Courses

East Renfrewshire Council will be holding its annual Coach Education Weekend from Friday 13th to Monday 16th April 2012 at Williamwood High School.  If you are 16 years of age or over, you can gain coaching qualifications in a range of sports including basketball, football, rugby, badminton, netball, hockey and tennis.  There will also be coaching workshops on safeguarding and protecting children and how to coach disabled people in sport.

Brochures and booking forms can be picked up from the PE department or for more information please speak to Mr Cook.

Scotland Lacrosse

Huge congratulations to Iain Dunlop, Johny Shaw, Josh Gray and ex-pupil Kevin Archer who have made the 2012 Scotland Junior Squad after 8 hours of lacrosse and 2 hours of fitness testing last weekend. These players will be competing in the British National Championships in Manchester come March.  Depending on performance and fitness these players may make the cut to play in the World Championships which will be held in Finland in the summer.

An honourable mention goes out to Matthew Hill who, as well as being selected for the Junior Squad fixtures above, has also been shortlisted for the Men’s Senior Squad who will be competing in the Senior European Championships in Amsterdam in July.
