UCAS UNDERGRADUATE DEADLINE – UPDATE

These dates have been updated in Track, and we’ve emailed applicants to let them know if their deadlines have changed.

We hope this gives students and their chosen universities and colleges the extra time they need to fully consider any decisions and offers, and ensures fairness in admissions is maintained.

Since the UK Government’s announcement, the Office for Students (OfS) have shared
further guidance and FAQs with universities and colleges in England to explain exactly what is covered in the two-week pause. In addition, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) has written to vice-chancellors at Welsh universities and colleges, requesting that they also undertake a two-week pause on unconditional offers.

Science Teams Codes

Please join the Microsoft teams for the courses you are currently completing using the codes below. All resources have been uploaded and we will post weekly instructions for S1-3 pupils on what to complete. Senior pupils can access all course materials on the team, and we will be posting information about the most important aspects to revise if you have chosen to continue studying the subject next year.

Continuing learning in light of Coronavirus

You will be well aware of the rapidly changing situation across the country due to the coronavirus. As you know schools, in line with everyone else, are following national guidance which in itself is necessarily changing on a daily basis. More information is available from the NHS at www.nhsinform.scot

At the moment all schools and Early Learning and Childcare Centres remain open. However, over the next few days and weeks, it is possible that an increased number of pupils and staff will catch the virus and have to stay at home. This will mean whole families having to stay at home for long periods of time, unable to come to school or go to work.

To help with our planning to continue to offer opportunities for learning we would be grateful if you could answer the following questions via the following link:

1. Do you or your child’s other responsible parent/carer work in one of the following sectors:
a. NHS/Social Care
b. Other emergency service
c. Other critical service, please specify

2. Are you currently, or will you likely be in the coming days, working from home (subject to the agreement of your employer)?

3. Does your household have access to the internet and WiFi?

I know this is a worrying time for everyone and I want to assure you that we are working hard to plan for different situations and continue to provide learning and teaching for our children and young people. We will continue to communicate with you through our usual channels on the arrangements for your child. Please continue to follow the updates provided through the school and Council social media sites.

Home Learning

All Mearns Castle High School young people have access to learning materials at home via GLOW, https://glow.rmunify.com/ – using their glow username and password.

Our school website also contains lots of information and teaching materials under the departmental tabs.

https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/MearnsCastle/

There are a variety of resources in these online platforms including notes, PowerPoints, website links, past papers and revision materials. We are continuing to add to these online resources on an ongoing basis. Young people should make full use of them.

Many young people in senior classes (S4-S6) already make use of the excellent online resources on the Scholar website for selected subjects, which can be accessed via Glow as can ClickView player. This contains a huge library of education video and online tutorials to support learning. Websites such as BBC Bitesize also contain valuable resources. These should continue to be utilised along with existing materials.

The school twitter account will continue to be updated with relevant information.        @mearnshigh
