Scottish Youth Parliament

The Scottish Youth Parliament would like your views to inform their 2021-26 Manifesto ‘From Scotland’s Young People’. As the democratically elected voice of Scotland’s young people, the issues SYP focus and take action on come directly from the concerns raised by 12-25 years olds across the country.

In this survey, young people will be asked for your opinion on a range of statements, covering topics such climate change, when the school day should start and how the Scottish Government should protect your futures in the aftermath of COVID-19. By sharing your views in this consultation, you will directly shape SYPs work over the next five years as well as help them inform Scotland’s political parties on what changes young people would like to see in the next Scottish Parliamentary term.

The survey is open to all young people aged 12-25, who live in Scotland, and will close on 19th September 2020.
This manifesto is SYP’s biggest consultation – make sure your voice is included!

You can find the survey here.

In you have any questions about this survey and the wider manifesto process please email at manifesto@syp.org.uk.

S2 Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI)

Due to school closures, S2 pupils in Social Subjects at MCHS, unfortunately, did not get an opportunity to finish their fantastic YPI projects, helping local charities. However, the Wood Foundation and YPI Scotland have created a fantastic opportunity for pupils to take part in YPI remotely.

YPI is giving pupils the opportunity to gain one of 50 grants of £4000, to give to a charity that is working at a local level to help with the impact of COVID-19 on communities.

Pupils can participate in pair and teams (remotely) to create an inspirational and creative submission on behalf of a charity, to be in with a chance to help win £4000 for their charity, and make a real impact affecting change in our local community for those who are vulnerable at this time.

Full details on how to participate have been posted in the S2 Social Subjects Google Classroom.

Pupils who participate must abide by social distancing guidelines and communicate with their teams remotely using online platforms.

We look forward to seeing some inspirational and creative submissions from you S2!

Google @ MCHS

Google visited Mearns Castle today and brought a bunch of Google binoculars for pupils to visit famous landmarks around the world.

The Social Subject faculty organised the day for pupils to visit some of the places they are studying using virtual reality headsets.  Places visited included The Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu and the battlefields of Belgium.
