School Application Week

Our Family Centre Teacher, Gary Train will be hosting a Coffee and Chat with the theme ‘School Application Week’ on Tuesday 9th January at 9am and again at 1pm. Gary will have information available about making an application and will be able to answer any questions you may have.

Parents and carers of children who will be aged five between March 2018 and February 2019 should apply to their local denominational or non-denominational school at this time.

For parents who are making an application for Isobel Mair School the process is slightly different. You may have already had discussions around this process however if you are in any way unsure, please speak to Donna or Joanne.

Christmas Countdown

Christmas Countdown

The ‘Christmas Countdown’ will begin with our annual Isobel Mair School and Family Centre Christmas Fair which will be hosted on Thursday 7th December from 6pm – 7.30pm. Please bring the family along for some festive fun!

Following the Christmas Fair, we have a range of other events over Christmas – please pop the dates in your diary!

  • Christmas Craft Day on Friday 8th December – please come along and join your child from 9am -10.30 or 1pm – 2.30pm to do some Christmas crafting. All staff across the three playrooms will have Christmas themed crafts available for you to come and participate in with your child. We welcome parents, grandparents, other family members, child-minders….the more the merrier!

  • Nativity Rehearsal on Monday 11th December – just bring your child for the usual nursery session and we will do the rest!

  • ‘Santa’s Little Helpers’ Day on Wednesday 13th December – if you have a spare hour or so please come along and help wrap some gifts for the children. There are 66 children to wrap for and we do not want staff to be taken away from their time spent with the children in the playrooms. Any offers of help would be most appreciated.

  • Nativity Performance on Thursday 14th December – Parents, family and friends are invited to watch the children perform the Nativity at 10am – 11am for our morning children and from 2pm – 3pm for our afternoon children. The Nativity will be at Newton Mearns Baptist Church and all are welcome.

  • Christmas Jumper Day – Friday 15th December – wear a Christmas jumper and bring a donation for Save the Children

Budget Consultation

Dear Parents and Guardians,

East Renfrewshire Council is consulting on its budget for 2018-2021.   Your responses to this consultation will help shape councillors’ decision making about how our budget will be spent over the next three years.

The Council’s budget covers a huge range of services, including education, schools, early learning and childcare, social care, roads, cleansing and housing.

While the Council does not yet know its exact budget, with the Scottish Government not due to confirm the annual grant settlement until December, ERC is expecting to have to make savings in the region of £26million between 2018 and 2021.  This is in addition to £37million of savings the Council has already made since 2012.

A range of proposed savings to meet the £26million shortfall has been published for consultation and is available at www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/budget.   Parent Council Chairs have been invited to a series of meetings as part of the Budget Conversation, but we are keen to hear from as many parents as possible on the savings proposals set out in the Budget Booklet, a small number of hard copies of which are available in schools or at this link.

The consultation will be open until 28 November, with the final budget being decided by elected members at a meeting of the full council on 8 February 2018.

Many Thanks,

East Renfrewshire Council

Parent Pay Update

Parent Pay is now up and running for all our ‘returning’ children;  term one toy and fruit fund can be paid.

If your child is new to the family centre, we are waiting on user names and passwords being issued to enable you to set up and use this service.

Many parents have spoken to staff, worried about not having paid for term one as yet. We are so sorry for this inconvenience.

If you would prefer not to wait – please pop the outstanding £33.00 in to an envelope, clearly marked with your child’s name and we will ensure our records are updated accordingly once up and running. Cheques are also acceptable – again, just pop in an envelope.

Getting to Know You

Please come along to our ‘Getting to Know You’ event at IMFC tomorrow.

This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and the staff who are working with your child, have a chat and conversation over coffee and cake.

The event will be held at drop off times for your convenience – 9.15AM and 1.15PM.

Representatives from IMFC Parent Committee will also be there to say hello.

Hope to see you there!

‘PoPP In’ Day: Thursday 7th September

Are you looking after yourself as a parent? Do you feel you have a strong relationship with your child? Would you like to try out different behaviour techniques and special ways of dealing with more difficult behaviour through play?

If you answer yes to any of the above then please come along to Donna’s ‘PoPP In’ session on Thursday 7th September at 9am or 1pm to find out more about the Psychology of Parenting Project.

Donna is trained in delivering the Psychology of Parenting Project and can talk you through what the course entails, answering any questions you may have.

Courses are fully booked at the moment (it’s proving extremely ‘PoPPular’) however recruitment for groups starting in the New Year is ongoing.

For more information on what PoPP can do for you, come along to PoPP In!
