First Phase of Free Early Learning and Childcare

The first phase of the Council’s approach to increasing free early learning and childcare provision across the area will be introduced at four nurseries in August.

Local authorities currently provide 600 free hours a year for all three and four-year-olds and eligible two-year-olds.

As part of changes being introduced by the Scottish Government, this will increase to 1,140 hours by 2020.

Find out more about how the Council is rolling this out and the eligibility criteria here:

‘PoPP In’ Day: Thursday 7th September

Are you looking after yourself as a parent? Do you feel you have a strong relationship with your child? Would you like to try out different behaviour techniques and special ways of dealing with more difficult behaviour through play?

If you answer yes to any of the above then please come along to Donna’s ‘PoPP In’ session on Thursday 7th September at 9am or 1pm to find out more about the Psychology of Parenting Project.

Donna is trained in delivering the Psychology of Parenting Project and can talk you through what the course entails, answering any questions you may have.

Courses are fully booked at the moment (it’s proving extremely ‘PoPPular’) however recruitment for groups starting in the New Year is ongoing.

For more information on what PoPP can do for you, come along to PoPP In!

Printed ‘fridge friendly’ versions are available from the foyer.

We hope you find this useful….let us know what you think!

IMFC Parent Committee Meeting

IMFC Parent Committee Meeting

Recently during a Pop in and Play session one of our parents, Mairi-Jean Watkins asked about re-establishing the IMFC Parent Committee. We currently have parent representatives who attend the IMS&FC Parent Council on a regular basis however we have not been able to establish an IMFC parent committee for quite some time due to parent’s home and work commitments.  Mairi-Jean has arranged use of our parents room on Tuesday 21st February at 1pm and we would very much encourage parents to come along and share their views. Morning and afternoon parents are welcome to come along.

“The staff are keen to have more input from us (the parents) by way of ideas and feedback. Examples are how to spend funding (toys, activities etc) and feedback on what we feel the nursery does well and any ideas on what we feel could be done differently”.

“This need not be time or labour-intensive. We all have very busy lives and sometimes those 3 hours during nursery time are the hours where we get a bit of time to focus on other activities/children! However, nursery is such an important part of our children’s lives, that it would be good for us, as parents, to have the opportunity to influence that”.

If you would also like to attend the Isobel Mair School and Family Centre Parent Council, the next meeting will be held on Thursday 23rd February at 7pm.
