Photo Magic

Brian and Morag McCormick from Photo Magic will be visiting Isobel Mair Family Centre on Wednesday 6th May to take photographs of your child(ren).

Photo Magic is a fun, family friendly mobile photographic studio specialising in children’s and families’ portraits. Photo Magic have put together a special package for IMFC which includes a variety of photos at a cost of £27.00. A contribution is also made to the Family Centre Toy Fund.

Parents are under no obligation to purchase the portraits. If you do not wish to make a purchase – just let Donna know.

We ask parents not to remove the photos from the Family Centre until payment has been made.

Please note: it is preferable if the children did not wear white or very pale colours. Stronger colours produce much more vibrant results against the white background used.

Toy Fund Envelopes and Consultation

Envelopes

Our Term 4 Toy Fund envelopes are now ready and will be handed out tomorrow. You should find a note inside your envelope asking for your views about a potential change to the Toy Fund. Please complete the return slip and pop back into the envelope before returning. If you would like to add any comments, please feel free to do so on the reverse.

Consultation Information

Our Toy Fund has always been a vital aspect of funds for us in terms of ensuring we can make particular purchases outwith our local authority budget. We have made purchases in response to children’s interest and parent comment, for example we recently purchased library bags at a cost of £400 using Toy Fund money. This enabled us to re-establish our IMFC Lending Library.

We also use Toy Fund money at times of celebration i.e. buying special snack items to celebrate Diwali, costumes when organising the annual Nativity, end of term parties and of course our Graduation Ceremony!!

We are thinking about increasing the Toy Fund to cover additional costs following recent efficiency savings across the authority and we want to hear your views.

We previously received a delivery of fresh fruit for our children each week to be used during snack time. Snack is an important aspect of our day and when children come together for snack they are learning important social skills in addition to skills in health and wellbeing, numeracy and literacy. If snack is to continue in the same way – we need to ensure we can cover costs. This is why we are carrying out a consultation with you.

Consultation is really important to ensure each and every parent and carer is offered opportunities to share their views. All views are taken into account, listened to and acted upon and we will ensure we make decisions in collaboration with you.

We have a small minority of parents who do not pay into the Toy Fund as it is a voluntary contribution. To ensure those parents can still share their views, blank consultation forms are available on the table in the foyer.

If any parent thinks they may be ‘behind’ in their Toy Fund payment and would like to bring payments up to date please speak to Donna who will be happy to work out the total amount due.

We look forward to hearing and acting on your views.

Oral Health Update

Miss Dewhurst and Miss McNeill have supported the children’s interest in this area and helped learning to develop in response to children’s ideas.

The children have planned some great ideas and all sorts of fun learning experiences are taking place within the centre.

The children have made a large ‘healthy smile’ from recycled materials and modroc. The children are using the SMART board to learn about dental decay and have been using laminated teeth with dirty spots to extend this further!

Miss Dewhurst contacted our Childsmile oral health promoter, Debbie Wilson to arrange for the children to have use of some  dental role play resources.

Have a look and let us know your thoughts about the learning taking place…..

IMFC Lending Library Relaunch

Some parents will remember our Lending Library last year. This ran really well for a month or so – then had to come to an end as books and library bags were not being returned to the FC. At the time, we only had approximately 25 bags to go around all children over morning and afternoon session.

Parents commented very favourably on the lending library and a lot were sad to see it come to an end. We have listened to your views and invested some Toy Fund money into the purchase of 100 library bags. We can now provide every child in the FC with their own individual bag.

The library bag will belong to your child until the end of term.

Children will be encouraged to choose their 1st library book from the lending library on Tuesday 3rd February. We ask that you ensure the book is taken good care of and does not come back to the FC torn or drawn on.

When the book is returned (every Tuesday) your child will be able to choose another book. If you forget to return the book on a Tuesday – your child will have to wait until the following Tuesday to pick a new book.

Miss McNeill is leading the Lending Library so if in doubt, just give Zoe a shout!

Christmas Jumper Day at IMFC!

Today we wore our Christmas themed jumpers to help raise awareness and help to transform lives around the world – from children caught up in conflict in countries like Syria, to families living in the shadow of the Ebola crisis in West Africa.

We have collected just over £100.00 for the charity and we will let you know the grand total as soon as all donations are collected.

Here are some photographs from the day!
