Come and help on BIG DAY DAY!
Children attending Isobel Mair Family Centre have access to a variety of outdoor spaces including the large playground with hill and forest area, pirate ship, sensory garden, outdoor atrium and adventure trail.
Children love to play and learn outdoors and the spaces we create and use can help to support children’s play in so many ways…….from helping children to be creative and expressive to helping support problem solving and risk analysis.
Our outdoor area is already really good, however…..we want it to be excellent!
For this to happen we need YOU to help!
Come along to our BIG DIG DAY on Tuesday 17th June.
Bring any unwanted seeds, bulbs, bedding plants or compost, spare fencing, unused patio slabs or gardening tools.
OR…..
Just bring yourself!
The more the merrier…..remember, this is your children’s play space!
Let’s make it the best it can be.
Upcoming Events!
We have lots to come before the end of term:
Graduation Celebration Event: Wednesday 11th June from 6.30pm – 8pm

Thank you!

Enterprise Update
Thank you to all parent’s, family and friends who supported their child and the Family Centre by coming along and supporting our Enterprise Event today.
Not all children’s art work has been sold as yet, however I am delighted to announce our total so far is an amazing £300!!
Thank you once again and we will let you know our final amount when all pieces of art are sold!
Children’s Weekly Workout
All parents should by now be receiving their weekly What’s Happening Email Bulletin.
This bulletin has proved to be a great success in terms of communication and this was reflected recently in our parental questionnaires. (*Feedback from the questionnaires is currently being collated – we will share the outcome of this and alert you to any ‘action points’ the family centre need to address.)
The weekly parent email not only informs parents and carers of the events for the forthcoming week, but also gives parents an idea on some ‘workouts’ and/or ‘talking tips’ to carry out at home.
The workouts and talking tips stem from staff’s knowledge of child development and we think about each of the workouts and talking tips in terms of how we can best support children’s continued development in all areas of the curriculum.
Even the simplest colouring in task (last week’s workout!) is helping support child development in a number of areas for example:
Fine motor development
- hand – eye coordination
- hand skills
- pencil grasp
- control of pencil/implement
- securing preferred hand
- development of pencil control leads to better control when forming letters/numbers
- awareness of matching, naming, sorting colours
- perseverance in task – even when tricky i.e. staying in the lines
- Maintaining attention skills
- Increased focus
- Completion of task through to end
- Following instructions
- Increasing confidence on completion and handing in to staff member
- Celebrating success when praised after completion
- Sense of achievement at having work displayed on wall
The list is endless……………
I wonder what next weeks workout will be!?
