‘Celebrating Who We Are’ Week

We are celebrating who we are. Blue eyes or Brown eyes? Long or short hair? Downs syndrome? Epilepsy? Autism? What ever it is that makes us unique we will be celebrating it this week.
The three charities we will be supporting this year include Downs Syndrome Scotland, Epilepsy Awareness and Autism Awareness. Thank you in advance for all your help to raise funds for these charities. Many of you have already placed orders for trolley tokens, pens and wrist bands to support these charities.
In addition to this we are hosting three special themed days:

Wed 21st March

Lots of Socks Day for Downs Syndrome Scotland – wear LOTS of socks, bright socks, odd socks, socks on your head….whatever you fancy!! Bring a donation to add to the bucket!

The children are also invited to bring in an ‘odd sock’ to make a sock puppet with Colette in Cara playroom

To make our ‘Celebrating Who We Are’ week even more special the children have been busy making a variety of themed items for you to purchase with all proceeds donated to the three charities. Please come along with your purses and wallets at the ready to ensure purchases can be made, raising awareness of these charities and the excellent work they do.

If your child attends the nursery on the Family Centre bus – do not worry, you won’t miss out! If you wish to purchase the items your child has made please give money to the bus escort in a sealed envelope marked with your child’s name.

We appreciate your support of our charity fundraising! Many thanks to all who have placed orders already and many thanks for your participation.

Christmas Countdown

Christmas Countdown

The ‘Christmas Countdown’ will begin with our annual Isobel Mair School and Family Centre Christmas Fair which will be hosted on Thursday 7th December from 6pm – 7.30pm. Please bring the family along for some festive fun!

Following the Christmas Fair, we have a range of other events over Christmas – please pop the dates in your diary!

  • Christmas Craft Day on Friday 8th December – please come along and join your child from 9am -10.30 or 1pm – 2.30pm to do some Christmas crafting. All staff across the three playrooms will have Christmas themed crafts available for you to come and participate in with your child. We welcome parents, grandparents, other family members, child-minders….the more the merrier!

  • Nativity Rehearsal on Monday 11th December – just bring your child for the usual nursery session and we will do the rest!

  • ‘Santa’s Little Helpers’ Day on Wednesday 13th December – if you have a spare hour or so please come along and help wrap some gifts for the children. There are 66 children to wrap for and we do not want staff to be taken away from their time spent with the children in the playrooms. Any offers of help would be most appreciated.

  • Nativity Performance on Thursday 14th December – Parents, family and friends are invited to watch the children perform the Nativity at 10am – 11am for our morning children and from 2pm – 3pm for our afternoon children. The Nativity will be at Newton Mearns Baptist Church and all are welcome.

  • Christmas Jumper Day – Friday 15th December – wear a Christmas jumper and bring a donation for Save the Children

  • Christmas Parties on Tuesday 19th December – party clothes on to come and dance and meet Santa Claus…usual nursery session times apply.

  • Last Day for term time children on Wednesday 20th December – Children who attend on a term time basis will have their last day with us today. There is no early closure, although you are welcome to collect your child early if it suits you to do so given school’s close at 2.30.

  • Last day for extended service children on Friday 22nd December – closure at 2.30

‘PoPP In’ Day: Thursday 7th September

Are you looking after yourself as a parent? Do you feel you have a strong relationship with your child? Would you like to try out different behaviour techniques and special ways of dealing with more difficult behaviour through play?

If you answer yes to any of the above then please come along to Donna’s ‘PoPP In’ session on Thursday 7th September at 9am or 1pm to find out more about the Psychology of Parenting Project.

Donna is trained in delivering the Psychology of Parenting Project and can talk you through what the course entails, answering any questions you may have.

Courses are fully booked at the moment (it’s proving extremely ‘PoPPular’) however recruitment for groups starting in the New Year is ongoing.

For more information on what PoPP can do for you, come along to PoPP In!

Welly Waddle

A letter went out recently asking for you to share your views on the best way to host our upcoming sponsored Welly Waddle fundraiser.

From the 68 letters than went out to parents, we had a total of 15 return slips with mixed responses.

6 parents said they would prefer the waddle to take place at Eastwood Park and were happy to meet there.

4 parents said they would prefer the waddle to take place in and around Isobel Mair School and Family Centre grounds.

3 parents said they would love to attend but had no preference to where the waddle takes place.

2 parents said they did not want to attend and therefore did not state where to waddle.

Following some discussion with staff it has been decided that we will offer both waddles!

Colette and Joanne or Donna will be at the car park at Eastwood Park at 10.30am and again at 2pm to meet children and parents ready for the park waddle. If you decide to waddle in the park you MUST stay with your child for the duration. Please bring along a small snack for your child too. Siblings and other family members are welcome to waddle along too!

All other staff will be waddling in and around the school and family centre grounds. Please come along and join us if you can!

Rainy Play

Getting to Know You

Children begin to establish friendships with their peers when they come to nursery and as a Family Centre we want to promote this social aspect across the centre.

We are opening the doors of Café Isobel on Friday 9th September to facilitate parents meeting, chatting and coming together in friendship.

Staff will be on hand to facilitate this if required, but we are hoping a few parents might wish to nominate themselves as taking on a leading role in developing the ‘Mair Mates’ drop in.

Please speak to me if you think this is something you could support and help develop.
