RSPB Action Award

Johanne March, keyworker of the Blue Group is introducing lots of new learning about birds and wildlife through engaging children’s interests as we work towards an RSPB Action Award!

We are all very excited to find out what learning experiences the children will be planning with Johanne over the next few months.

This Action Award scheme is all about finding out about wildlife, doing practical things to help and telling other people. Lots of things threaten our wildlife, but nature is all around us and there are things we can do to help. The award scheme will support children’s learning across the curriculum.

There is a bronze award, a silver award and a gold award and the activities the children can participate in are divided into four sections:

  • Finding out what’s there
  • Helping wildlife
  • Being environmentally friendly
  • Spread the word.

There are 33 tasks in the award scheme and you get one point for each. Johanne and the children are going to have to work very hard!

Bronze award
To get your bronze award, you need to complete six activities, including at least one from each section. You only need to do five activities if one of the activities you have chosen has double points.

Silver award
For a silver award, you need to do another six (making a total of 12), including at least two from each section.

Gold award
For a gold award, you need to do another six activities (making a total of 18), with at least three from each section.

Here are some photographs of the children beginning to work towards the award through participating in bird watching.
