P5A Class Blog Friday 5th May 2017

Today we went to Whitecraigs to do a rugby session with 3 other schools Kirkhill, Uplawmoor and Neilston primary school.  We rotated around different stations. We worked on tackling, caching co-ordinating running speed and aim passing kicking.

In music we were using instruments to make a Scottish waltz.

In P.E we did badminton and athletics stations.

We had bike-ability this week. We had three stations, one worked on our balance, the other our co-ordination, and dismounting our bikes safely.

Primary 5 have enjoyed another great week! 🙂

In maths the Fantastic Fractions have been learning how to calculate the volume of a cuboid. The Excellent Equations have been revising how to simplify fractions and calculate equivalent fractions and will be moving on to something new and exciting next week. The Super Subtractions have been calculating the area and perimeter of different shapes. Next week, the Super Subtractions will be learning about direction and movement.

In language, we have been finishing off and re-drafting our imaginative stories. We have been challenging ourselves to up level our work as we redraft it to make it even better! We have also been illustrating our stories. We look forward to sharing them with you soon! 🙂

Readosaurus have been reading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and are really enjoying the text so far. Writosaurus have continued reading a Series of Unfortunate Events and are really enjoying it. Spellosaurus are almost finished Georges Marvellous Medicine! We look forward to starting a new book next week.

In Social Studies, we have continued learning about the Scottish Wars of Independence. We learned about William Wallace and the Battle of Stirling Bridge and created our own story boards to show what happened during this battle. We also created our own Coats of Arms where different animals and colours represent different traits E.g. lionàbravery, unicornà extreme courage, purpleàjustice, yellow/goldà generosity. We will share some pictures of our Coats of Arms next week 🙂

In PE, we have been doing athletics and have been learning different skills at different stations. We have enjoyed doing hurdles, sprints and relay races!

Today, we were lucky enough to go to the Whitecraigs rugby club with lots of other schools. We really enjoyed playing rugby rounders, completing obstacle courses and meeting new friends! We were even lucky to have a sunny day! 😀

P5A Class Blog 28th April 2017

The pink maths groups have been doing co-ordinates using positive and negative numbers.

The white group have been finding fractions of numbers and amounts.

The orange group have been doing 3D shapes and making shapes from nets.

The yellow group have been reading the time.

 

The purple group have started reading Pinnochio

The blue group have started 18th Emergency

The red group have started Horrid Henry’s Underpants

The green group have started The Frankenstein Teacher

 

Google expedition came to our school.  We each had a V.R (Virtual Reality) headset. We went on a journey to Jupiter and we saw inside the space modeule Juno.  We also had some time to look at the Taj Mahal, Rio, The Great Wall of China, Sydney and some sharks!

 

We have been doing athletics in P.E and had different stations including shot putt, realy races, hurdles, long jump.

 

We did more bikeability this week too!

 

P5A Class Blog 21st April 2017

The pink group have been doing co-ordinates in maths.

The white group have been continuing their work with fractions and finding fractions of amounts.

The orange group have been learning about 3D shapes.

The yellow group have been continuing their work on time.

In writing we had to describe a scene using descriptive language such as adjectives, adverbs, personification, simile, onomatopoeia and alliteration.

We started bikeability this week. We were out in the playground and had to complete 3 stations. We had to cycle in a circle and had to follow instructions like “touch your head with your left hand”, in the second station we had to cycle in a straight line and stay as close to the cones as possible and in the third station we had to follow a zig-zag line and keep our front tyre as close to the line as possible.

Today is crazy hair day and dress as you please. The houses have also been collecting money for the money-mile competition.

In P.E we started athletics. We have been using a baton and practising our passing of the baton whilst running.  We have also started badminton with the P.E specialist from Eastwood High School.

In art we looked at medieval writing and created our own medieval intial.

P5B 3103: Happy Holidays!

Hello! This week has been Amazing! 🙂

In writing we have been Creating imaginary stories inspired by the movie Brave. We have been using Alliteration, Onomatopoeia, adjectives and similes to make our writing interesting for the reader. Our stories are amazing! 
We learned about the story of Easter and had a fun quiz too. We completed a variety of Easter activities including fact files; design your own egg, Easter cards, sequencing tasks and posters! On Wednesday we brought in boiled eggs and had a competition to design the best egg. We used paints, pens and lots of other interesting materials. The winner was Jonathan! Jonathan designed three eggs…Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. His designs were EGGxcelently EGGtastic! 😉
On Thursday Primary 5 threw a party for Miss Raworth to celebrate her upcoming wedding! It was awesome! We decorated the classroom, played party games, made cards and danced  She was really surprised and said it was fantastic!
Primary 5 and Miss Raworth (soon to be Mrs Murdoch!) wish everyone a fantastic Easter break! 🙂 🙂 🙂

P5B Blog 24/03/17

Hello!

We have had ANOTHER fantastic week in Primary 5! 🙂

The Excellent Equations have been working hard on simplifying fractions and are making excellent progress. The Fantastic Fractions have been working out the area of right angled triangles and really tricky compound shapes! The Super Subtractions have been working on coordinates and are doing a great job!

In language, we have enjoyed continuing with our imaginative writing. We have been describing different settings and characters using adjectives, alliteration, onomatopoeia and similes. Our descriptions have been fantastic! We have started planning our story and next week we will be developing our plots! We hope to share some of our stories with you after the Easter Holidays 🙂

On Tuesday, we had our bikes checked for bikeability. Some of us even rode to school in the snow!!!

We have been learning about our awesome topic, The Scottish Wars of Independence and have learned lots of interesting facts about William Wallace!

In PE, we have been finishing off our creative dances which are looking great! We wrote down our dates of birth and had different dance moves for each number. We then taught our partner our dance routine and they taught their partner theirs.

In Science, we made a circuit which powered a light bulb! It was really fun!

In ICT, we have continued with our coding challenges and are making amazing progress! We are really enjoying it too 🙂

Slessor won the House Reward Afternoon!

P5A Class Blog Friday 24th March

We had our first house spirit afternoon and we designed a house mascot.

We have been learning the dangers of smoking we had to come up with an advert or radio.

Slessor have the most house points for March and they get a special treat.

The pink group have been learning about different types of triangles and measuring their angles.

The white group have been simplifying and finding equivalent fractions.

The yellow group has been learning about 2D shapes and tiling.

The orange group have been doing more subtraction.

In writing we used descriptive language to describe our character’s emotions the night before the battle.

In science we made open and closed circuits.

Today is red nose day and some people brought in a red nose.

Class Blog P5A 17th March 2017

We created our own tartan in art. We used oil pastels to draw our tartan on to a kilt.

In maths the white group have been learning about equivalent fractions and how to simplify fractions. The pink group have been dividing using decimals.  The orange group have been working on subtraction puzzles.  The yellow group have been creating tiles with 2D shapes.

We have been continuing with our creative dance in P.E. We had to create a dance that had a jump, stretch and balance in it.

In language we set the scene for our story. We used different descriptive language including adjectives, adverbs, simile and personification.

We were learning about William Wallace in topic.

We have been doing character descriptions in language we used adjectives adverbs and similes to create our own character.

We have been creating our own shields in art.

We created Scottish landscapes using oil pastels.

The pink group have been multiplying with decimals.

The white group and orange group have been working on addition and subtracting.

We created a Vincent Van Gogh poster.

We have been learning more about Scottish Wars of Independence.

In P.E we have been doing creative dancing.

In ICT we were doing coding.

Livingstone had their reward afternoon and watched a movie.

Hello!

It has been another excellent week in Crookfur Primary 🙂

We finished presenting our Renewable Energy PowerPoint’s to the class and started our new topic on The Scottish Wars of Independence! We are really excited to learn more about our new topic.

In language, we are focusing on imaginative texts and started our new and exciting reading books. In writing we looked at describing different settings using adjectives, alliteration and onomatopoeia. We came up with some fantastic descriptions!  🙂

Following on from the work we had been doing on setting, we explored and painted different landscapes in art. We look forward to displaying our work in the classroom (we will post pictures of finished work shortly… 🙂

In maths, the Fantastic Fractions are working on measure and will be calculating the area of triangles. The Excellent Equations will be exploring equivalent fractions. The Super Subtractions finished their work on Data Handling. They have been busy collecting data via surveys and using this information to make graphs which they have found fun!

 On Thursday afternoon, we were lucky enough to have a ‘Power from the People’ workshop with Generation Science. This workshop taught us all about electricity and how we can use movement to generate electricity. We played lots of fun games and were able to conduct experiments of our own. At the end, we used movement to produce electricity so that we could charge our Hex Bugs. We then had a big race with all the Hex Bugs, it was so much fun!
