Parent Dyslexia Workshop
Muddy Mile
A group of pupils, parents and staff participated in the Muddy Mile run on Sunday 20th March. This event was inspired by our running club and Mr Neillie, the parent who runs this afterschool activity. The Muddy Mile was great fun. We had a few lost shoes in the mud pits but the sun was shining and everyone was smiling at the finish line. We hope to make this an annual event, so we will send out more information early next year to allow more parents and pupils to join us.

Chanukah Card Competition
Staff and pupils at Calderwood Lodge were delighted to welcome Ken Macintosh MSP to Kabbalat Shabbat last week. Every year Mr Macintosh invites our pupils to enter a Chanukah card competition. The winning cards each year are printed and given out by Mr Macintosh as his official Chanukah cards. Well done to our three prize winners Milla Marco (3rd place winner), Daniel Dotan (2nd place winner) and Gabby Rose (1st place winner). Each of our winners was given a special prize along with some printed versions of their winning entries. Mr Macintosh also left certificates for all pupils involved in this competition. Well done to all pupils involved.
Stars in our schools
Today the pupils at Calderwood Lodge celebrated the hard work by all of the support staff in the school. The pupil council set up a presentation for the staff with banners, a star balloon, a star filled table, and lots of different drinks, cakes and sweets. The staff were presented with a certificate signed by all members of the pupil council, letting them know we all think ‘they are a star in our school’. Members of the pupil council each said something about the hard work carried out by the pupil support assistants, kitchen staff, janitorial staff and office staff.

Book Fair
At the Book Fair last week we were able to raise a total of £850. As a result Scholastic have given the school £500 worth of vouchers to spend on books. We will use these to add to the non-fiction section of our school library. A big thank you must go to Primary 7 for giving their free time to run the Book Fair.
Weekly Parasha
Kosher Rap Competition
Our Primary 6 class are taking part in a Kosher Rap competition, where they have been tasked with recording their own rap video, based around something that they have been learning in school. This is a national competition, so we will be competing against other schools throughout the UK. If we are successful in winning this competition we will win the chance to record our song and film with a professional recording company. This is a great chance for our Primary 6 class, and also a great chance to raise the profile of our school and our Kodesh curriculum. Please take the time to visit www.kosherrap.uk to vote for our entry. If you click to watch the videos then you will see at the beginning of the video which one is the Calderwood Lodge entry. Please encourage as many of your friends and family as possible to do this, as some of the other schools that we are competing against have a much bigger role than ours, with more children and families to rely on for votes.

Book Fair
To tie in nicely with all of the celebrations this week for ‘World Book Day’, the book fair will once again be in school next week. The children will have the chance to browse through the books during class time, and there will also be opportunities to purchase books and stationary at break and lunch time. The book fair will be open for parents’ evening and there is also the opportunity to order and pay for books on line following the instructions on the attached leaflet. Anyone wishing to pay by cheque should make them payable to Calderwood Lodge Primary School. We look forward to seeing you there.
Purim Celebrations
Pupils and staff at Calderwood Lodge had a fantastic time today celebrating Purim in school. As usual there were many wonderful and creative costumes, and this year as Purim coincided with World Book Day we took the theme of ‘characters from stories and books’ to help us choose our costumes. The whole school celebrated in the hall with an assembly that included a fashion parade, a play presented by Primary 5, a comedy sketch from Mrs Yedd, Mrs Borowski and Shosh and a visit from our very own Smurf Rabbi Rubin. Activities carried on throughout the day linked to World Book Day. Look out for pictures to follow in The Jewish Telegraph and check back here later for a gallery of photographs from the day.
Book Fair
Once again the Book Fair will be in Calderwood Lodge for the week. Each class will have a chance to visit the Book Fair during the school day. The Book Fair will be open at break times and lunch times for the children to purchase books and other small items. There will also be an opportunity for parents to visit during the upcoming parents’ evening.
