East Renfrewshire Diversity Day
On Thursday, 4th September 2014 Harun and Varun Kooner entertained P6 pupils from Carilbar, Neilston, Cross Arthurlie and Springhill and Auchenback Primary schools as they participated in the East Renfrewshire Diversity Day. In the morning the pupils attended an Exhibition of Faiths and Cultures, participated in an Art Competition and developed their team building skills through various Sporting activities.
In the afternoon Harun and Varun gave an instrumental celebration of Diversity by playing the Dohl drums. As they played all the pupils danced and enjoyed themselves. A variety of awards were given to pupils and schools and Mary Montague, Convenor of Community and Community Services gave her closing remarks and celebrated the achievements of all.
Harun and Varun are active members of the Glasgow Dholis who are a vibrant and versatile group of young Dholis that have the passion to play the Dhol (Indian drum). The Glasgow Dholis play along to a variety of popular and cultural songs – including Punjabi and English and Harun has also played his Violin in a cultural fusion within several events.

Edinburgh International Book Festival comes to Barrhead
We were delighted to welcome the award winning author, Berlie Doherty, to our school this week as part of the Edinburgh International Book Festival outreach programme. She spoke to our S1 pupils about her latest book “The company of ghosts”, a haunting and beautiful ghost story for young people. Our pupils were well prepared with lots of questions and there was an opportunity to get books signed.
A most enjoyable and interesting visit.
