Outing to the Park!

Confident Individuals

On Tuesday, the Sunflowers enjoyed their first outing to the park. Each child loved the swings, climbing frame and zip line slide. We had a lovely walk too and practiced using traffic lights.  Everyone waiting for the green man to allow us to cross. Well Done Sunflowers!

Careers Week!

Successful Learners 

For Careers Week, the Sunflower’s enjoyed matching occupations with their related tools. Each child was able to select the correct job and the tools that were needed to complete the job. Everyone enjoyed uncovering photos of occupations on the interactive board and each child got to select an occupation and watch a short video.

FAOL -World Book Day!

Confident Individuals and Effective Contributors 

World Book Day was a huge success! All the children loved hearing our 101 Dalmatian story and participated using an AAC device or vocally to answer questions. The class took part in a variety of activities including finding characters in foam, making spotty Dalmatian masks, creating their own selfie picture and decorating world book day cupcakes by adding icing and cake toppers.  Everyone had a fantastic day and looked brilliant dressed up!

Pancake Day!

Confident Individuals 

The Sunflower’s thoroughly enjoyed pancake day by creating their own pancake designs. Each child was able to choose their own pancake and decorate it with fruit and a sauce of their choice. Some pupils were able to taste new foods. We also enjoyed making our own pancake cut and stick faces.

Purple day!

Effective Contributors 

The Sunflower’s participated in our LGBT Awareness day by listening to our story called ‘Giraffe’s Can’t Dance’. The story helped us to understand that we are all different and unique. Afterwards, we made our own giraffes and decorated them with spots in a variety of ways.  Everyone had a brilliant day!

Numeracy – Shape Tracing

Successful Learners

The Sunflower’s thoroughly enjoyed learning about 2D shapes this week.  Each child used flour, food colouring and water to make their own sensory bag.  Afterwards, we revised our shapes and practiced drawing them ourselves using a cotton bud.  Excellent work Sunflower’s!

SOC 0-09a – Theme – Edinburgh Garden Map

Effective Contributors

Whilst learning about Edinburgh, the Sunflower’s enjoyed following a visual map of the garden to find famous Edinburgh landmarks they have been learning about.   Each child used the map to locate the pictures in the garden and went on a hunt as a team to find them.

Edinburgh Theme Tasks- MNU 0-02a – Number Ordering

Successful Learners and Confident Individuals 

During Numeracy time, the Sunflower’s were practicing ordering numbered images.  Our Scottish story this week was ‘Hamish The Hairy Haggis’  and after story time, each child was given a set of numbered images from the story to sort.  Some children practiced number matching whilst others ordered images from 0-30.  It was a team effort, excellent work Sunflowers!!

Making Shortbread

Successful Learners 

As part of our Scotland theme tasks,  the Sunflower’s loved baking some shortbread in cookery.  Each child was able to help weigh and add ingredients to the mixing bowling using visual and spoken instructions.  Everyone had a turn at rolling out the dough with a rolling pin and pressing down a cutter to create a shaped piece of shortbread.  The shortbread was put in the oven and we loved tasting it at afternoon snack time.

Chinese New Year

Confident Individuals and Effective Contributors 

Today, the Sunflower’s enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year.  As a class, we watched the dragon dance that takes place each year and we then made our own dragons to dance along to the music.  Afterwards, each child took part in some sensory play and practiced using tweezers to lift noodles.  Red and gold are lucky colours at Chinese New Year and we played with our lucky red playdough alongside golden rice. Some children practiced  tracing Chinese numbers in rice too!
