IDL – Exploring simple types of forces

Confident Individuals/Successful Learners

The Snowdrops have enjoyed finding and exploring toys that we have to ‘push’ or ‘pull’.  We also went on a walk around our school and found lots of different things that have to be pulled or pushed.  Everyone found favourite toys to play with that had to be pushed or pulled!

IDL – creating paper mache turnips

Effective contributors/successful learners

The Snowdrops have been exploring different textures to art materials to create a turnip which we have been hearing about in our theme story The Enormous Turnip.  Everyone helped to tear strips of newspaper and then we mixed flour and water to make a mache paste.  We painted balloons with mache and covered the balloon in strips of newspaper.  It has been very messy fun!

RRS – New Friends (Article 15) Confident Individuals/Successful Learners

The Snowdrops have been looking at large photos of their new class friends.  We have all created friendship boards to take home and a large class poster.  The Snowdrops can recognise our Willowbank school badge and our class snowdrop picture.  We have been practising saying or signing all the names of our class friends too.

IDL – Exploring stories

Successful learners/Effective contributors

The Snowdrops have all made great responses to our new theme story about the Enormous Turnip.  Everyone has explored and handled story visual aids during story sessions.  Pupils have been able to point to story characters and pictures, and explore tactile story versions.  We have had lots of drama fun, pretending to ‘pull’ the enormous turnip as well!

Busy Snowdrops

It has been a very busy start to new term in the Snowdrops Room.  Everyone has been making effective contributions to art work and creating a new wall display about new Friendships.  Our new friends have been confident individuals moving around their new class and school environment.  Here are some photos to show you our busy start the school year!

Snowdrops in the school garden

The Snowdrops were all responsible citizens watering our flowers in the school garden and gathering lots of different colours and textures.  We were effective contributors creating fun  letter shapes of our names using the garden textures.

Rebound and PE with the Snow drops and Swimming/Hydro

Can I just say what a super year it has been working with the pupils and the staff. The progress is subtle but so profound and important. Strength in body’s but also development in communication eye contact and facial expression, simple hand gestures, Makaton signs, voice use. It all happens when we feel good. What a confidence boost !

In Rebound we have worked on flexibility for some, balance in sit, hands and knees, high kneeling and standing.

In PE we have worked on relays as seen at Sports Day. Sitting and standing walking on and over obstacles,  rolling; crawling through the tunnel, working with hoops and hoola as long as we can; using trampette; cylinders and the big ball.

In Swimming and Hydro again we have worked hard and had lots of fun and challenges with great results. All pupils looking forward to come to the Willowbank Pool and having big smiles and motivation to get in has been great to see. Again with the superb staff support it makes for a fantastic learning and working enviroment.

Pasta Colouring

The Snowdrops have been successful learners making colourful pasta shapes and creating pasta necklaces.  Everyone contributed effectively – making personal colour choices, signing colour names, taking turns and following simple instructions when dying our pasta shapes.  We then used our fine motor skills to thread our coloured pasta onto elastic.  It was a fun activity and the Snowdrops confidently showed their work to friends from the  Moonbeams during our ice cream parlour enterprise activity.

The Snowdrops were all effective contributors on a visit to The Garage, ten pin bowling.  Everyone showed great turn taking and waiting skills.  It was lots of fun to see how many skittles we could knock down.  You can read our scoreboard at the end to see which Snowdrop won!
