Easter Fun!

The Moonbeams have had a fun filled week. They searched for eggs in class, created some lovely Spring themed art, boogied to some Easter songs and even met the Easter Bunny.

IDL: Shape Tower

The Moonbeams have been identifying and matching shapes this week. The children demonstrated their understanding of shape b using a variety of shapes to  create a tower for Rapunzel.  Take a look at their amazing creations!

Red Nose Day

Confident Individuals          Effective Contributors

The Moonbeams have had a very successful and fun day raising awareness for Comic Relief. The children listened to a story about how the Charity helps a boy their age. They then made had some red jelly and dug for red noses in it and drew pictures of themselves with red noses on their faces. Take a look at our fun filled day!

Science Week

The Moonbeams have had lots of fun being Scientists this week.  The pupils mixed ingredients together to create a variety of chemical reactions. They enjoyed exploring the different textures and observing the changes. Take a look at some of our experiments.

 

Vinegar Pops – Vinegar ice cubes and baking soda mixed together created a chemical reaction.

Ice Cream in a bag – Ice and salt create ice crystals to make ice cream

 

Slime  – changing back to a liquid form

Cornflour Slime –  consistency changes when touched

Mallow Slime  – consistency changes when warm

Literacy – Alphabet Soup

Pour some water into a tub. Add some letters or just the letters of your name. Using a ladle, scoop the letters out and make your name or match letters.

Using bricks, Lego or blocks build some number towers.

Can you build a tower with 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 blocks? Have fun knocking it down.

It’s Science Week! Here is a fun, tasty experiment for you to do at home.

Ice Cream in a bag

You need – about 15 cubes of ice, 2 zip lock bags, 1/4 cup of salt, 1/2 cup of milk, 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

  1. Pour ice cubes into a zip lock bag.
  2. Pour 1/4 cup of salt in with the bag of ice..
  3. Put sugar and vanilla extract into 1/2 a cup of milk and mix.
  4. Pour into the empty zip lock bag and seal.
  5. Place the sealed milk bag inside the bag of ice and seal.
  6. Then shake for approximately 3 minutes. Feel the bag to make sure it has thickened up, if not shake a little more.
  7. Take out and open milk bag which should now feel like ice cream.
  8. Pour into a bowl and enjoy your delicious homemade ice cream!

FAOL: Whole School – World Book Day

Welcome back Primary 3!

It’s been a busy week in the Moonbeams class. The children have enjoyed listening to their favourite stories and have been effective contributors and confident individuals while acting out parts of the stories. The children made story boards to demonstrate their understanding of  the beginning, middle and end of Goldie Locks and the Three Bears and showed their creative side by designing new book covers and characters.

Home Learning – Week 7

Hi Moonbeams, I hope you are all well.

On Thursday it is World Book Day. Here are some activities to try at home. Choose a different book everyday to listen to. 

  1. Elmer – Click here. Can you decorate a drawing of an elephant with lots of different coloured materials?
  2. Little Red Riding Hood –  Click here.  Can you pack a picnic basket with some real or toy foods.
  3. Bing gets dressed –  Click here. Can you dress up or try to put on some of your clothes independently.
  4. Max and the won’t go to bed show – Click here. Can you help to make your bed and tidy your toys away.
  5. Oh Dear – Click here. Paint some boiled eggs and then search for them once they have been hidden around the room.

Numeracy

Collect some stones from the garden or when you are out a walk. Can you paint them and write a number on them. Can you order them? 1 2 3 4 5

Outdoor Learning

Make some binoculars for bird watching.

You will need – 2 cardboard toilet or kitchen rolls, some tape, paint.

  1. Paint the cardboard and leave to dry.
  2. Stick the cardboard together.
  3. Go to a window facing your garden and look out of them to see some birds.

  3. Find some toys and objects around the house beginning with s a t p i n. Request an object for your child to pick up from the choice.
  4. Practice tracing letters and lines from your home pack.

Numeracy

  1. Listen to some number songs. Click here.
  2. Practice tracing numbers from the home pack.
  3. Play a number game or share and count out toys between two.

Home Learning – Week 5

Good morning Moonbeams!

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. Lets start our morning off with a familiar song from our school assemblies. Get up and have a little dance if you wish.

Literacy

  1. Listen to and practice some Makaton Signs. Click here.
  2. Pour some flour or rice in a tray and encourage your child to make shapes or letters with their finger.
  3. Read a story and point to the characters and objects on request.

Numeracy

  1. Go out to the garden and collect some objects – sticks, leaves, stones, toys. Can you sort and count them?
  2. Fill up a basin or bath with water. Fill up and pour small, medium and large cups, jugs, bottles etc.

Home Learning – Week 4

Hi Moonbeams. Hope you are all well. Here are some activities if you wish to take part this week.

Literacy – Fine Motor Skills

What you will need: jigsaws (inset or other), socks, plastic toys, soapy water, tub, toothbrush, paper, scissors.

Choose an activity/ activities for your child.

  1. Put some plastic toys in warm soapy water and pretend they need to be cleaned. Help your child to hold to toothbrush and show them how to scrub toys clean.
  2. Match socks from a choice of 4 or 6 and then fold socks together.
  3. Help to complete a jigsaw.
  4. Practice tearing paper with your hands.
  5. Challenge – Help to hold scissors correctly and practice cutting paper.

Numeracy – Counting and Colour

What you need: Variety of  objects from around the house. 

Choose an activity/ activities for your child.

  1. Sit all the objects/toys out. Pick up one at a time and explore. Say the colour.
  2. Place 2 different coloured objects out and request a colour. If needed, support your child to choose the correct object and say the colour.
  3. Challenge – Set 4 or 6 objects out (only 2  varieties of colour at a time) and ask to sort. Perhaps use 2 tubs with a colour in each to demonstrate.
  4. Count each variety of objects, touching each one as count along.
