50 Things – Flying a kite

The Asteroids enjoyed making and flying their own paper bag kites.

We were confident choosing how we were going to decorate our paper bags and then we followed verbal and visual instructions to turn the paper bags in to kites.

We took the finished kites to the playground and garden to test them out. We agreed it could have done with being a bit more windy!

Most of us were able to, independently, lift our kites in the air and fly them.

Fly high!

IDL Evidence – Venn and Carroll Diagrams

Pirates come in all different shapes and sizes, with many different looks.

The Asteroids were exploring sorting items into different categories using venn and carroll diagrams. When completing our special pirate themed venn diagram, we had to look carefully at different pirates and sort them into whether they had an eye patch or a peg leg or both. Completing our carroll diagram, we had to look and see whether the pirates were male or female and whether they wore an eye patch or not.

It could be quite tricky at times but we all managed with confidence to complete our sorting activities.

Great job!

50 Things – Bird Watching

The Asteroids enjoyed a trip to the garden on Tuesday. It was a lovely day to enjoy bird watching.

We had a list of birds to look for and we talked about whether the birds were big or small and what colours their feathers were. We used binoculars to help us spot birds that were far away.

We weren’t able to spot all the birds on our list but we did see a Blue tit, Magpie and a Sparrow.

Good spotting, Asteroids!

Earth Day with the Asteroids

We were successful learners finding out more about Earth Day this morning.  We paid attention to the board when we watched our information film and then some of us could answer questions about Earth Day.

As our way to help the earth, we planted sunflowers and seedlings to transfer to the school garden next week. We all enjoyed the feeling of the soil running through our fingers and looking at the plants’ roots.

Later, we were responsible citizens and took our recyclable items from the classroom and sorted them at the school recycling container.

We all enjoyed listening and joining in with some Earth Day songs too.

IDL evidence – Using cardboard tubes to make a telescope.

Every good pirate needs a good telescope to look out for enemy flags and treasure!
The Asteroids confidently collected and counted out old toilet roll tubes to make their own telescopes.

We painted them black which was tricky to do and then left them to dry. Once they were ready, we had to fit the tubes inside each other, so we had to cut one or two and make them narrower tubes. When we had them all fitted and arranged, we sellotaped them together and decorated them.
They look fantastic, don’t you agree?

Easter Activities

The Asteroids have enjoyed the last week before the holidays.

We were very responsible and confident, handling the animals when we visited the petting zoo. The animals were so cute!

We had super looking skills when we went on the Treasure Hunt. We found the Easter bunny at the end and he gave us Easter eggs! Yay!

We’ve enjoyed making some Easter crafts, listening to the Easter story and singing some Easter themed songs.

Today, we had lots of fun outside in the sun at our Easter disco. We played some party games and had fun with our friends from some other classes.

Have a great holiday, everyone!

FAOL Enterprise – Easter gift baskets/bunny tails

The Asteroids worked well today, putting together their Easter gifts for people at home.

We discussed who we might give the gifts to, then the boys set to work handling the foodstuffs without being tempted to eat them! It was very tempting!

We listened well to instructions and made confident choices.

Well done, Asteroids! The gifts are eggcellent!

Red Nose Day 2022

The Asteroids took part in some Red Nose Day activities today.

We made biscuit faces complete with red noses, coloured and designed our faces and noses, played ten pin bowling using a red nose as the bowling ball and did some red nose target practise.

In the afternoon we met, virtually, with some of the classes in the corridor to share what we had been doing.

Celebrating Holi

The boys in the Asteroids class enjoyed learning about Holi, the Hindu festival, also known as the Festival of Colours. They enjoyed watching the cbeebies clip of people throwing paint powder at each other!

We had a go at throwing paint – we tried some splat painting. We dipped cotton wool balls into watery paint and dropped them on paper to produce splats. They look really good! When they dry, we will fold the card to make a Holi celebration greeting card.

Good work, Asteroids!

Science Week

The Asteroids have had a great week enjoying the science experiments the Transition class prepared for us.

We have all been confident individuals and successful learners as we have paid attention to, and participated in the activities. We have enjoyed finding out about our senses and using them during the experiments.

Have a look at some of our photos from the week:
