Last week the children were working on their next spelling phoneme, ‘ie’. They participated in various tasks in class to learn the different spellings of this sound.
You’ll find the link to this weeks word list to practise at home below. Please note, new phonemes will usually be taught biweekly. Happy spelling!

Scottish Song for Burns Day
Well, after a near unanimous vote, the children decided on learning the Jeely Piece Song for Burns Day this year. The energy in the room as the children sang their first attempt after hearing it for the first time was unmatched. Over the coming weeks, we look forward to disecting and learning more about the story behind the song, as well as learning the song itself for you all to enjoy on the 23rd January.
You will find links to the YouTube video and lyrics for the song below. Please note, I have included all verses in the lyrics below, we may not do all of these, we will see how the children get on and choose their favourites.
Thanks,
Mrs Tweedly

A warm welcome back everyone, lovely to see our lovely smiley children back in class, very much willing and rearing to go! As Mrs Meek said, thank you so much for our lovely Christmas gifts, we were truly spoiled and they are so appreciated. Very much looking forward to the new year and an exciting term ahead.
Please find spelling words grid by clicking the link below, your child knows which group they are in, and once they have worked on their words, they are more than welcome to challenge themselves on the others!
Feel free to practise the words in any way you choose, or why not try one of the activities from the grid below.

Spelling Homework
Spelling w/b 06/10/25
In class, we have been doing lots of spelling practice and revision of previous learning which has lead us nicely into learning our new phonemes and their various spelling patterns. The children have been split into groups based on their previous learning and baseline assessments, to ensure the learning is at their individual pace and challenge level. However, these groups are not set in stone, which means the children can freely practise any spelling word they like, in addition to their own spelling words.
This week we have been learning the ‘ai’ phoneme and its spelling variations. See below.

Children are encouraged to practise as often as they can at home, whenever fits in with their home lifestyle. We will not be collecting any homework in, but we will do a little weekly spellcheck in class to ensure progression and see where children may need more support. Please see below for some activity ideas to make spelling fun, or feel free to come up with your own.
