Snapshot

Snapshot jotters came home yesterday for the children to share with you. There is a comment sheet in the front of the jotter for you to share your own thoughts with your child. Please return these jotters prior to your parent call next week.

If anyone has not made an appointment for a call but would like one, I have some availability on Wednesday 4-5pm. Please contact the school office to allow them to pass your details to me directly.

Homework for week beginning 9th May

Hello everyone, I am so sorry for the delay in providing the homework for this week.

Reading –

Book Bandits – Silly Jack and the Dancing Mice

Page Pirates – Football

Word Wizards – Bug Boy: The Slug Picnic

Sound Stars – Sarah’s Tap Shoes

Literacy – this week we are revising the previous 4 sounds o_e, i_e, u_e and a_e. In class we are challenging ourselves to find words which use these sounds and making a big list together. Any practise that can be done at home with these sounds will be beneficial.

The sound stars are continuing to work on their sh, ch and th sounds and should continue to work through the word list from last week.

Additionally, I have allocated the class a number of games on Bug Club. These by no means need to all be done this week. Instead allow your child to focus on the areas they think they need to practise and encourage them to challenge themselves to take on trickier levels within games.

Numeracy – this week our squares and triangles are working on patterns of shapes, colours, numbers and anything else we can get our hands on.  This link will goes to a game they can play to support this https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ordering-and-sequencing/shape-patterns

Our circles are focussing on building their knowledge of numbers to 100. The following game will allow them to practise ordering them. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ordering-and-sequencing/caterpillar-ordering They should try to do it forwards and backwards. This may be tricky for some of them but please encourage them to persist, it will help I promise!

Homework wb 3rd May

Welcome back from the holiday weekend. I hope it was an enjoyable one for you all. We have a short week this week with the in-service day to look forward to on Thursday.

This week we are working on the sound u_e. We are continuing to build our knowledge of split phonemes and will spent next week going over all of the ones we have learned. I have attached words the children can use to practise this sound. We are trying to remember that these two letters make one sound when we are building our words and that missing the e changes the word. Our Sound Star should continue to practise with the same words as last week. The following link is a game that the children like to use in class.

There will be no changes to reading books this week. Please, if your child has read the book, ask them to do it again and if they haven’t been able to do it yet please encourage them to read it as many times as they can before next week.

Homework wb 25/04

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you all had a nice weekend.

Due to the impending solo talks our homework will be slightly different this week. I would ask that if anyone has not managed to arrange their solo talk yet if it could please be done this week. I will be starting to hear the children tomorrow. The information is contained in the post from last week. Please let me know if there are any issues with completing this to allow me to support your child to complete their preparation in class.

Reading homework for this week is:

Book Bandits – The Vet’s Day

Page Pirates – The little book of big reptiles

Word Wizards – This dinosaur

Sound Stars – Can you see cat?

Our sound for this week is a-e. I have attached the word lists for the children to practise these words. Lots of our class are going to focus on writing the words correctly over the coming weeks as we are very good at reading them but find writing them to be difficult.

I have attached a separate word list for the sound stars.

In numeracy we are focussing on strategies for addition and subtraction beginning with adding and subtracting 10. I am not providing specific homework for this at the moment but feel free to encourage some practise if there is time.

Homework

Welcome back. It has been a lovely day catching up with everyone’s holiday adventures. Our last term is going to be a busy one with many exciting things coming up.

Our homework for this week is slightly different. I have asked the children to prepare a short solo talk about a dinosaur of their choice. We have learned facts about some dinosaurs in class but the children are free to choose any dinosaur that interests them. They may wish to bring props or pictures to help show what they are talking about but this is not compulsory. I have reassured the children that it is just their class that they are speaking to, something they all do every day. It is important that this be the work of the children to reflect their own learning. We will begin to hear these talks next Tuesday and continue until everyone has performed.

Homework wb 28/03

Well we have made it to the last week of term! I have really enjoyed watching all of the progress the children have made across this term. Despite a few bumps in our road, the whole class have things to be proud of moving into the holidays.

Homework this week will be only reading and Sum Dog. As I type this at lunchtime, I am having technical issues with bug club and cannot allocate the children their books. When this is resolved, the books for this week will be:

Book Bandits – Super Gloop

Page Pirates – Slick Tricks

Word Wizards – Splash

Sound Stars – At the Fun Fair

If anyone is having issues with accessing bug club at home please let me know so that I can allow them the opportunity to complete it in school.

On Friday we will be having an Easter fun day. The children are allowed to come to school wearing their own clothes, maybe in spring colours if they can. Our class will finish at 2.25pm on Friday afternoon.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter time with your families and look forward to seeing everyone again when we return on Tuesday 19th April.

Homework wb 21/03

What a happy day we have had today. With many of us having succumbed to various illnesses recently it was lovely to see most of the class back and ready to learn. We were so busy today that we didn’t get outside to enjoy the weather but buy the look of the forecast we can save that for tomorrow.

Our new sound this week is o-e (rope). We have learned the sound today and will work on our common words tomorrow. I have attached words for practise and as always, I would encourage you to support your child to build other words with the same sound. This week I would like all of the class to work on the same sound at home.

In addition to the usual grid, I am posting a link to a game that may support the children with learning this split phoneme.

Our reading books for this week are:

Book Bandits – Amazing Trees

Page Pirates – Ballet

Word Wizards – Shaun the Sheep, You are my Mum!

Sound Stars – What is in my net?

Numeracy homework will be distributed tomorrow.

We are currently looking at dinosaurs as our topic. I know a lot of the class are very excited about this and some may wish to bring things in to show the class. I am happy for them to do this and will do my best to make time for them to show things on the day they bring it in. Unfortunately we don’t have anywhere in class to make a display of their items so I will encourage them to take them back home with them.

Homework wb 14/03

For our phonics this week we are consolidating the last three sounds igh, y, and i-e. The children should use their lists from the last three weeks for practise and can be challenged to think of other words or find other words perhaps in a book or magazine.

Reading this week will be as follows:

Book bandits – Sea Snaps

Page Pirates – Jay and Sniffer, The Bike Race

Word Wizards – Senses

Sound Stars – Top Cat

Numeracy – we are taking part in the Sum Dog East Ayrshire competition this week. The more questions the children answer the higher our score will be. Everyone should have their log in details in their diary.
