Homework wb 28/02

Our phoneme for this week is y (as in fly). This phoneme makes the same sound as last weeks igh. As the week progresses it may be good for some of the children to work on both sounds to help them remember which sound goes with which word. The sound stars words are also posted below.

Our reading homework this week will be as follows:

Book Bandits – What makes you laugh?

Page Pirates – Grow it Back

Word Wizards – My Pony Book

Sound Stars – Animal Homes

I have allocated each child a number of books on bug club for them to read at their leisure. These aren’t homework so don’t worry about completing them in a certain time, it just allows the class some extra practise.

In numeracy we are continuing to work on fractions. I have allocated everyone a game on bug club to help with this. We are focussing on halves and quarters. At home you can support their learning by helping them to find these fractions in every day life.

Homework wb 21/02

Our phonics sound this week is ‘igh’. This is our first sound containing three letters which the children were excited about. I have posted the words below for the children to practise with at home.

The sound stars have been working hard on blending their cvc words and building their knowledge of common words. Their words are below.

The children should aim to complete at least three of the spelling activities at home over the course of this week.

Additionally, to help some of the children with their presentation, I will be issuing sheets that can be completed at home for handwriting practise. Please don’t feel pressured to do these in one night, they are for ongoing practise.

Reading for this week is assigned on Bug Club. Books are as follows:

Book Bandits – Wallace and Gromit

Page Pirates – The Mermaids and the Dolphin

Word Wizards – Zip and Zap and the Thing

Sound Stars – Can Panda Get It?

In numeracy this week we are focusing on fractions. Numeracy homework will be on paper this week and will be issued following tomorrows lesson. Remember Sum Dog is always there to allow your child to practise their numeracy skills.

Homework wb 7th Feb

Sorry for the late post today. We have a short week this week and next week meaning that homework will be slightly different.

Reading books will be distributed tomorrow to the class and posted on here afterwards.

For phonics this week we are consolidating the sounds au, ew, ow (owl) and ou. I have attached a suggested word list but feel free to allow your child to build their own. (Sound stars should continue to work on the words given out last week).

This week is Children’s Mental Health week at school. On Thursday we will be taking part in a fundraiser called ‘Dress to Express’ in aid of the charity Place2Be. Full details of this can be found on the main Gargieston blog. I look forward to seeing the class showing their personalities through their clothing. https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/ea/gargiestonpsandecc/

Instead of posting numeracy homework for this week I would like to encourage all of the class and their families to do something that benefits their mental health. This may be just having a conversation with another person, or going for a walk. For some people reading or writing have a positive impact on their mental health. Whatever you and your child do, let us know. It may just give someone else in our class a good idea.

School Meals Mascot Competition

I know that many of our class enjoy drawing so I thought this competition may be of interest to them.

East Ayrshire Council’s Catering Services team is running an exciting competition for all primary school age children in East Ayrshire.

The team would like children from your school to design a new mascot to represent and promote healthy school meals and to encourage children and young people across East Ayrshire to make healthy choices. The mascot can be absolutely anything, the more imaginative the better! It could be a vegetable, a fruit, an animal or an explorer or an astronaut or a knight…

The team would also like to know the mascot’s favourite school meal and it doesn’t have to be something that is already on the menu.

The competition is open now and will close on Friday 29 April.

If anyone would like to take part they can bring their entry to me at school and I will make sure it gets to the correct place.
