Sum Dog competiton

From today until next Thursday there is a Sum Dog competition running between the East Ayrshire schools. This is to be the numeracy homework for next week but I thought some people might like to get started just now. Everyone should have their log-in details in the front of their diary.

Homework wb 07/03

Our new sound this week is our first split phoneme i-e as in fine. We will be focussing a lot in class on the difference the e makes to the word. Some of the class have found this challenging today and may require a little extra support both here and at home. I have attached the words and a spelling grid. If your child is looking for a challenge, they can try to make word with this phoneme that are not on the lists. The sound stars will continue to work through the words they had from last week to allow these to embed fully.

Reading books for this week are

Book Bandits – Silly Jack and the Beanstalk

Page Pirates – Oceans

Word Wizards – Draw with Penny

Sound Stars – Animal Homes

Numeracy homework will be posted following tomorrows lesson.

World Book Day Reminder

Just a last minute reminder about World Book Day tomorrow. All of the children are invited to wear either pyjamas or to dress up as a character from a book. They will take part in their sponsored read (sponsor forms have been sent home) and have other activities to do in class. The book fair also arrives at school tomorrow and our class is scheduled to visit it on Tuesday morning. All sponsor money and book payments will be completed via parent pay.

Junk

In class we have been learning about knights and castles. The class have decided they would like to make their own castles and armour. To help us do this could we ask you to bring in some clean junk from home? It would be ideal if this could be brought in on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week ready for us to spend Wednesday afternoon getting creative.

Homework wb 28/02

Our phoneme for this week is y (as in fly). This phoneme makes the same sound as last weeks igh. As the week progresses it may be good for some of the children to work on both sounds to help them remember which sound goes with which word. The sound stars words are also posted below.

Our reading homework this week will be as follows:

Book Bandits – What makes you laugh?

Page Pirates – Grow it Back

Word Wizards – My Pony Book

Sound Stars – Animal Homes

I have allocated each child a number of books on bug club for them to read at their leisure. These aren’t homework so don’t worry about completing them in a certain time, it just allows the class some extra practise.

In numeracy we are continuing to work on fractions. I have allocated everyone a game on bug club to help with this. We are focussing on halves and quarters. At home you can support their learning by helping them to find these fractions in every day life.

Homework wb 21/02

Our phonics sound this week is ‘igh’. This is our first sound containing three letters which the children were excited about. I have posted the words below for the children to practise with at home.

The sound stars have been working hard on blending their cvc words and building their knowledge of common words. Their words are below.

The children should aim to complete at least three of the spelling activities at home over the course of this week.

Additionally, to help some of the children with their presentation, I will be issuing sheets that can be completed at home for handwriting practise. Please don’t feel pressured to do these in one night, they are for ongoing practise.

Reading for this week is assigned on Bug Club. Books are as follows:

Book Bandits – Wallace and Gromit

Page Pirates – The Mermaids and the Dolphin

Word Wizards – Zip and Zap and the Thing

Sound Stars – Can Panda Get It?

In numeracy this week we are focusing on fractions. Numeracy homework will be on paper this week and will be issued following tomorrows lesson. Remember Sum Dog is always there to allow your child to practise their numeracy skills.
