Letter to all parents and carers from Head of Education – 20 March 2020
Friday 20th March 2020 16:27
Dear Parent/Carer,
Thank you for once again for your understanding of the current situation in regards to the school and centre closure period we find ourselves in.
It is absolutaltey critical that parent and carers are aware that the emergency school and centre provision is only when all other childcare options have been exhausted.
Please do not attempt to send your child to the school/ECC provision being provided if you do not meet the key worker catergories noted in this link:
https://www.east-ayrshire.gov.uk/CouncilAndGovernment/Coronavirus/Schools-ecc.aspx
We are sure that you will fully understand our need to minimise the number of children and young people attending such provision.
Yours sincerely
Linda McAulay-Griffiths
Head of Education
Key Workers
Further Update from the Head of Education. We have had some requests from parents regarding the definition of a key worker. There will be a full and final definition of this provided by EAC later today. This will then be provided to parents via the app and school website.
Communication Update
The staff at Mount Carmel PS would like to thank you for your support and understanding during these unsettled and worrying times.
All children have currently been issued with a home learning pack which includes EAC’s list of suggested websites, ideas for indoor play and their personal logins for Glow, Bug Club and SumDog. If children were absent from school this week their packs were delivered to them by school staff.
We are following the advice given from East Ayrshire Council and will continue to update you as information becomes available to us. It is anticipated that there will be further guidance from EAC today.

Hello from Lockerbie!
Hello from Lockerbie!
We’re having an excellent time (although the weather has been temperamental) and are all enjoying ourselves. So far the children have taken part in team games, kayaking, canoeing, abseiling, the hi-ropes and team games. As usual the food is excellent and all the pupils are being well fed 🙂
Last night the weather was cold and very rainy so we decided to stay in and the Lockerbie staff organised a quiz for us.
Wifi isn’t great here so we will try and upload photos when we can.

In response to concerns about Coronavirus, staff are making sure children are washing their hands throughout the school day. We have spoken at assembly about correct hand washing and watched video clips showing the correct procedure. Links to help your child understand Coronavirus
“Coronavirus – What is it? What’s happening? Will I catch it? Children ask lots of questions, but BBC Newsround has produced a series of helpful video clips to help children and young people understand more about what’s going on. …..
We have added some up to date links on the Information page of our blog page to assist you when explaining and discussing Coronavirus with your child.
P4 – Spectacular Science Centre
Our amazing Science Centre experience! Here are some photos of us at the Glasgow Science Centre. We had a brilliant day! Our favourite activity was the Planetarium. We learned lots of cool facts about the planets like most of the planets are named after Roman Gods. We also loved learning that all the stars make up pictures in the sky and these are called constellations.
