Hello!

Hello boys and girls,

Mrs Duff and Mrs Dunsmore are so excited to be able to keep in touch with you!!! We know Marty bear is missing seeing you all in our school so he will be delighted too!!!!

We hope you have all been having lots of fun at home with your families, especially during the lovely sunny weather.

We have been busy drawing pictures of ourselves so that you can see us on your screens anytime you like! We would also love to be able to see all of you………so do you think you could you do a very special job for us?

Could you draw a fantastic picture of yourself and ask a grown up to take a photograph of you holding it, just like we did? Then you could send it in to Mrs McGahon and we can put all the photographs of our new Primary 1 friends together.

We can’t wait to see all of your lovely faces again!

Love Mrs Duff and Mrs Dunsmore xxxx

Artwork Wanted!

Young People of  Galloway Diocese!

At Mass this morning Bishop Nolan set you all a challenge!:

If you are not on Facebook, you can email your artwork to Mrs MGahon on: Joanna.mcgahon@eastayrshire.org.uk

THANK YOU!

Wow!!

A huge thank you to everyone from Mount Carmel, past and present, who sent in messages, drawing , poems and lovely memories for Mr McMillan’s Memory Book.

We have been overwhelmed by the response and are truly grateful for you all taking the time to send them in, he will be absolutely delighted I’m sure!

Unfortunately, there has to be cut off point….so please do not send anymore as sadly we won’t be able to add them in now. However, you could still make something for him and keep it at home till our schools go back and bring it in then and we will pass them on to Mr McMillan.

Clap for our carers!

Shout Out!!   claire.crawford@eastayrshire.org.uk

Remember to tell me who you are clapping for and why. Shout outs will appear on a Thursday.

P7 Transition Update

Good Morning,

Below is an update from St Joseph’s regarding P7 transition.

 P7 Transition to S1

Our P7 transition events can no longer take place. However, Mr Boyle and our Pastoral Care team have our transition packs ready to go. We are currently determining how best to share these packs with you and plan to create a dedicated page on our website for our incoming P7 cohort. We anticipate that this page will be live in mid to late May.

We will let P7 Parents and Carers know when this page becomes available.

Thank you,

Miss Mudge

Monday Motivation!

Another Monday, some days fly by and others pass slower.  As always we hope that all our families are well, and staying safe at home. P6 designed a Monday Motivation banner to help lift spirits, we think it is Fab!

At MC primary we use PATHS as one of our Health and Wellbeing resources. We would love you at home to pick a ‘Family Member of the Day’. We usually have a ‘Pupil of the Day’ who receives compliments from their classmates. Adapting to our current situation, we would love if families could share this experience.

Look after yourself and each other. Together we are Team MC.

Give it a try!

Good morning on this beautiful sunny Monday morning.

A few more activities to try at home. It is always good to take a short break from schoolwork activities and these ideas are great for a short brain break:

Busy Bags

Creating a ‘busy bag’ for your child is a great way to have a 10-minute break from schoolwork, or a chance to have quiet time if they are feeling overwhelmed or anxious. Using the resources in the bag, children can fidget, build, or make a craft item.

Fill the bag with craft items such as pom poms, stickers, collage type materials, pens, pencils, small pad of paper, glue, pipe cleaners or any other items your child will want to get creative with. What can they create?

Try putting some Lego pieces or toy cars in the bag too and children can build a small object or roll the cars around on the floor. These are good ways to help a child self-regulate and ‘switch off’ to the world for a short time.

Brain Breaks

Our brains are a muscle and need exercise too. Challenge your child to the test below.

The first test is easier, ask your child to read the colours as written. Then ask them to say the colour of the word. This is more challenging as it is asking your left and right side of the brain to work against each other. Left wants to read the colour, right wants to say the colour it sees.  Give it a try!

‘I Am…’ Poem

To remind your child of how fantastic they are, and to fill their thoughts with positivity, ask them to create an ‘I Am..’ poem, and to be honest about their worries and their hopes and dreams. You can use the template below or as a guide to creating your own.

Stay safe and well!

Try to relax

As another working week comes to an end, we wish you a relaxing weekend with your loved ones. Remember to take time to relax and try and grab some time to yourself for a lie down , bubble bath or book.  Stay Safe. Together we are Team MC.

And remember lots of fun experiences are so valuable for everyone during this time. Making memories as a family.

Welcome to the P1 Transition Group page for children starting Mount Carmel Primary School in August this year.
We really loved seeing all the boys and girls when you visited the school before the holidays and we hope that you are all very excited about coming to join us in August.

However, we are sad that we are now not going to see you all for a while. We would love to keep in touch as you are all now part of our Mount Carmel family.
Any family who would like to be part of this could they please contact Mrs. McGahon at:
Joanna.mcgahon@eastayrshire.org.uk

Mr. McMillan is retiring- we need your help!

We are sad to announce that Mr. McMillan, our long serving school janitor will be retiring on May 5th this year. Mr McMillan will be turning 70 this year and has decided to hang up his keys for good!He has been part of the Mount Carmel family for 20 years and we obviously want to mark this in a special way. It is such a shame under the circumstances that the school will be closed on his last day and that we will be unable to celebrate with him in person! BUT…..we have a plan.

We would love if as many children as possible can send in either a drawing, a memory or a short poem about Mr McMillan. We will collate them all and have them made into a special Photobook as a keepsake for him. Please remember to add your name to the front of your work!  If you need any tips for ideas here are a few:

He will be 70 in July, he has been at Mount Carmel for 20 years, he loves music, he used to play football, his favourite football team is Auchinleck Talbot .

Please send entries in to me (Mrs Templeton) :

gillian.templeton@eastayrshire.org.uk

We have a very short time span on this and really need your entries in asap and at the very latest by 9am next Tuesday( 28th).

Hope you are well.

Our Mount Carmel family hope that you are well, these times can be daunting for adults and children alike. Here are some resources that may help emotional health, some for adults and some for children. Stay safe. Together we are Team MC.

And finally some Monday Motivation…

As always if you need to contact the staff for any questions or support please use online form.

Welcome Back!

Hello and welcome back!

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter break and enjoyed some sunny weather in their gardens. It is still a very strange time for us all, our routines have completely changed, and we are missing seeing everyone in school.

Below are a couple of ideas you could do at home with your children, to help children talk about how they are feeling, what they are missing and to help us to share our thoughts as a family.

Conversation Café

Set up a ‘conversation café’ at home, ask the children to help set a table for afternoon tea, in the house or in the garden and let them help serve some sandwiches or sweet treats. It’s always nice to have some cake, a cuppa and a chat together. The attached photo suggests some conversation starters you could have together, which will encourage children to think about happiness.

Friendship Card

Like many of us, your children will be missing seeing their friends from school and may be finding it hard to understand why they can’t have a play date or a catch up with friends.

Encourage your child to make a ‘friendship card’ for a school friend.  They can design and decorate their card with all the things they know their friend will like.  Ask your child to write a personal message to their friend, writing about all the things they miss about their friend and what they hope they will do together once life returns to normal.

As always, any child who feels they would like a chat, can email me through Glow at any time and I will be sure to respond.

Take Care

Mrs Travers

Reach for the stars videos

Hello everyone!

Just a friendly reminder about submitting your “Reach for the Stars” videos.  Thank you to the children who have already submitted theirs; we are enjoying watching them. We are looking forward to seeing  more coming in.

If you have still to submit your video, please can you do so to Mrs Dunsmore at: Alana.Baird@eastayrshire.org.uk by 12noon on Wednesday 22nd April.
