Fun Days with Primary 1/2

Primary 1/2  had lots of fun during their visit to Dean Park. They loved exploring the grounds of Dean Park, playing at the playground and joining in with ball games at snack time. Primary 1/2 also had lots of fun on Friday at the fun day. They LOVED bouncing on the inflatables and thought their ice cream was so yummy! Have a look at some of the fun Primary 1/2 had on these special days.

Primary 6 update

We had a lovely time at Dean Park on Tuesday, the rain stayed off which was a huge bonus.

This week P6 have been planning, writing, and illustrating stories for their P1 buddies. The stories will be created into a book which the new P1 will receive before the Summer holiday.

P6 have also been writing and rehearsing their House Captain speeches. Tomorrow they will film their speeches and next week the classes will vote for the 2021/22 House Captains and Vice Captains.

Vote for your House Captains! | St Dominic Savio Catholic Primary School

P6 are looking forward to the Fun Day on Friday! A lovely treat after all their hard work this year.

Primary 4 Dean Park Visit

Primary 4 had a wonderful day at Dean Park.  We saw the animals, had fun at two of the park’s swing parks, had a lovely lunch and had some time for games too.

A great day was had by all!!

As a special treat for our pupils who have recently had, or are about to take part in their 1st Holy Communion, Primary 4 will have an extra special party on the morning of Wednesday 23rd June to mark this special occasion.  All children can wear party clothes and we will have some treats, music and dancing in our big hall in school.  It will be a lovely way to mark the end of their primary 4 year too!

School Improvement Priorities

As we get to this time of the year we reflect back on what has happened this session and plan for next session.

In 2020-2021 our Improvement Plan focused on:

· Raising attainment in reading, spelling and phonics using Active Literacy approaches

· Improving outcomes in numeracy focusing on counting, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

· Implementing year 2 of the PATHS programme to help improve outcomes in health and wellbeing.

As we know periods of lockdown and Covid restrictions severely impacted on our school and it has been a challenge to take some initiatives forward. We will fully evaluate the impact of these priorities when we compile our Standards and Quality report and Improvement Plan for 2021-2022 early in the new term.

In 2021-2022 our intention is to focus on the following priorities:

· Raising attainment in writing using a whole school approach to teaching specific types of text.

· Introducing Learning Journal in P1-3, which is safe on-line sharing platform.

· Raising attainment in numeracy, particularly in mental calculations.

· Improve outcomes in health and wellbeing, developing nurturing approaches across the school, building community through a refresh of our vision, values and aim reflecting Rights Respecting Schools and further develop our Respect for All Policy. Continuing with our PATHS approaches.
