Holy Communion
Congratulations to :

who made their First Holy Communion over the weekend .
Brand new Surplus Uniform
We have a selection of surplus brand new school uniform which we have decided to offer to parents/carers at a minimal price. This will be on a first come first served basis.
All proceeds will go directly to MCPS school funds. Please contact the school with your order and instructions on how to pay. Any orders made will be sent home with your child.

Spooky Pizza Lunch
On Friday 30th October there will be a change to the normal lunch menu!
Face Coverings
As of tomorrow, following reviewed national guidance, all staff are now required to wear face coverings more often during the school day.
We know that this might be upsetting for some children. Staff will ensure that pupils are supported in adapting to this change and will reassure them that it not something to worry about. We would appreciate if you could also discuss this at home.

Parent Council Meeting
The next meeting of the Parent Council , which will also be their AGM, will be on Tuesday 20th October. Please note this will be an online meeting. Anyone interested in attending please email the Parent Council on: mcparentcouncil@gmail.com to obtain a link to the meeting.

PE Clothing
On PE days, children should wear suitable trousers for PE outdoors with a polo shirt and school jumper. No full tracksuits and/or other jumpers should be worn to school.

October Break
Just a reminder that the October break is almost upon us.
The school will close at the usual time this Friday (9th October) and will re-open for pupils on Tuesday 20th October.
Go Purple Day
Reminder that this Friday (9th October) is “GO PURPLE” day in aid of the Ayrshire Hospice. If you are able to donate £1 via parent pay we would be extremely grateful. All the donations will go to straight to the Hospice.

This week in Primary 6…
Primary 6 have been really busy this week. We have been doing lots of activities and learning outdoors.
Numeracy
The pupils worked together to create excellent nature-inspired symmetrical artwork. I was really impressed with how engaged in the task they were and their super pieces of artwork at the end of the lesson.
Literacy
This week the pupils used Microsoft Word to type their Personal Recounts. The pupils learned how to use the thesaurus to uplevel their adjectives.
RME
During RME we discussed inspiring people in our own lives and in our world. The pupils learned about inspiring people such as Ann Frank, Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King Jr. The pupils researched and created a Powerpoint on an inspirational person which they will present to the class next week.
Well done Primary 6 for all your hard work this week.

PE Activities
Due to the current situation, we are unable to access our gym halls and use these for PE activities. Children will go outside to complete PE and should wear appropriate clothing on their PE day.

Homework Folders
Please remember to bring in your Homework Folders to school tomorrow !
Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 Homework
From Monday 28th September, Primary 1 will be receiving weekly homework. Your child will receive their homework folder each Monday and should return it to class on the Thursday.
In your child’s folder will be a homework grid which will outline the tasks to be completed. These tasks will be based around the new learning taking place in class each week and will include:
Jolly phonics Sound sheet(s) reinforcing the action and rhyme for our new letter “sound” as well as giving the children an opportunity to practise forming their new letter correctly.
Bottle top lid with new letter sound. These will be added to each week until every child has the full alphabet, allowing for revision of each letter sound and eventually word building.
Common Word Flashcards (these will be included in coming weeks and should be practised every night once introduced.)
Number formation sheets.
Reading task.
There will be specific guidance for completing each task on the grid but please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.
The reinforcement of your child’s literacy skills at this stage is crucial so your ongoing support with the homework is hugely appreciated and will prove very beneficial to your child’s progress.
The children are very excited to be finally starting “grown up” homework and we are sure their wonderful enthusiasm towards it will continue.

A busy week in Primary 1!

Roman found lots of ways to make 4 using numicon.
We have been learning the “s” and “a” sounds as well as practising how to write them in lots of fun ways!
We also had time for team work, working together to create one of our PATHS puppets, “Daphne Duck” 🐥!
Rag Bags
Please check your child’s bag for their Rag Bag, as they were given out to all the children this morning. Filled bags must be returned to the school by Friday 9th October. Thank you.
Go Purple Day 2020
On Friday 9th October 2020 we will be holding our annual “Go Purple” day in aid of the wonderful Ayrshire Hospice. A Parent Pay fundraising page will be set up and we would be delighted to welcome any donations of £1 for this fantastic cause.
This will be a dress down day for the children who are encouraged to wear something purple to school on the day.

First Holy Communion
Primary 5 have been busy preparing for their First Holy Communion. Although slightly different this year, the school community would like to wish you all a peaceful, special day when it comes. Please keep these children in your prayers.

P6/7 Outdoor Art
We have been doing outdoor art and created designs inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. Also our topic is the Wilderness War and is linked to participating in activities outside and we are trying to feel like the characters in the book. We have created unique structures using natural resources including things that you can see from far away, faces, towers and pyramids and spirals.
It was good fun making our own designs and working as a team. We also demonstrated patience as the weather played havoc with our designs!
Nature inspired poetry
Last week Primary 6 headed outdoors for their writing lesson. They chose an aspect of nature to write their poem about. Primary 6 learned how to create a diamond poem. They also used a thesaurus to uplevel their adjectives. I am delighted with the poems they created and can’t wait to see what other fantastic writing they’ll do this year.

Rag Bags- change of date
Due to the long weekend, there will be a change to the dates for our Rag Bags; They will now be sent out to us week beg. 21st Sept and will distributed to the children during that week. The collection date is now Friday 9th October.
