Dyslexia Awareness Week

We have been celebrating Dyslexia Awareness Week again. Our Monday assembly was all about Neurodiversity and what that means for children in Mauchline PS & ECC. We limit the use of pens and pencils during No Pens Wednesday and we were being creative in many other ways.

We posted some pictures on our Twitter/X page:

Accelerated Reader and MYON

Children from P3-7 have access to the reading programme, Accelerated Reader. This programme encourages children to read for enjoyment with books at their own level. Once the children have finished reading a book, they complete a quiz.  The aim is to progress through the reading levels and have a love for reading which will transfer through to adulthood.

MYON is a linked programme which contains thousands of digital books that the children can access through their AR login.

Clean Green Award

We are delighted that we have gained our EAC Clean Green Award. We gained a Bronze Highly Commended Award and a Special Recognition Award for all of our hard work this year. Kayla and Sophie received our awards and certificates at the award ceremony at Loudoun Academy. They represented our school and Eco committee. They have been hard working Waste Warriors, helping reduce the amount of food waste in the dinner hall.

We also received our Green Flag from Keep Scotland Beautiful which will be proudly hung in our school.

Community Garden

P4 and P2/3 went down to the Community Garden to start planting up our  beds.

We planted beans, potatoes, cucumber, lettuce and sunflower seeds. We also decorated around the beds using chalk to draw flowers, fruit and insects.

Our strawberry plants from last year are looking good too.

Fingers crossed for lots of strawbs!
