P5

The Masked Performer

Reminder that the date for The Masked Performer is 16th of May. Children have been given a letter home with which act they are in and times.

Here Comes the Sun

We have been exploring music from the 60’s.

P5 are working hard to learn a section of ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles on the glockenspiel.

Money, Money, Money

P5’s Numeracy topic is money.

This morning, we worked in groups to create a price list for four different businesses.

We then set up shop outside in the afternoon and had lots of fun calculating total costs of a customer’s shop.

The Swinging Sixties – Pop Art

This afternoon we looked at the work of Andy Warhol. We explored the features of pop art and created our own using watercolour paints. The focus of our art was a lemon.

We still have to add more detail to our art next week but I think they’re looking great so far!

Robert’s Rangers

P5 are loving their role as Robert’s Rangers! They are doing a super job making sure that we are saving as much energy as possible in our empty classrooms at lunch time.

Each child will have a turn of being a ranger and some children will be selected to train other classes in the school.

Scottish Landmarks

We have come to the end of our Scottish Landmarks topic. P5 enjoyed learning about areas of interest near us.

Here is some of the wonderful art work the children created with Mrs Kerr.

P5 are excited to start their new topic, The Swinging Sixties.

Mohamed said it was a great way to work on his accuracy.

Manal said the activities were really enjoyable and the people were nice.

Lucy said it was brilliant and she can’t wait for the next session!

Literacy

As part of our phoneme work this week, P5 read Chapter 1 and 2 of our class novel, ‘The Hundred Mile An Hour Dog’.

The children identified and wrote down any words containing the /ks/ phoneme.

Culzean Castle

P5 enjoyed their trip to Culzean as part of our Science topic. We used our senses to notice the features of different trees and how these provide habitats for local wildlife.

We learned how to measure a tree to estimate its age.

After lunch, we explored the grounds of the castle.

P5 were keen to ask the park rangers questions and found out lots of new information to research further.

Class Trip Information

Earlier this week, the class were given their EV5 forms to be signed and returned to school. This is for our class trip to Culzean Country Park on Wednesday 14th February. We hope to learn lots of exciting things about life cycles as part of our Science topic!

On this day, a school packed lunch can be provided (cheese/ham/tuna sandwich) or children can bring their own packed lunch from home. Please have a chat at home about which option would be best.

Thank you!

Back To School!

P5 are happy to be back at school and are settling in to the class well.

All About Me!

The class have spent time completing all about me flowers and portraits of their inner and outer self.  We spoke about our interests, and our similarities and differences.

Class Charter

At the start of term, we combined space and the character Stitch to create a class charter that included an interest of all the children. To create this we discussed all of the articles as a class and selected the ones that we felt were important to us and our class.

Open Afternoon

This week we had our first visit from families after school. The children showed their family members around the class and it was lovely to have the chance to speak to those who were able to come along.
