Well done to our Scottish poetry finalists and winner. Fantastic performances.

We braved the elements to go outside and participate in the RSPB big bird watch. There were a variety of different birds and it was interesting to watch their movements and behaviour.
As part of our Social Studies topic, Scotland, we explored the production of oats from field to bowl then we made some delicious Scottish porridge 🏴
We have been using Venn Diagram to sort 3D shapes by their properties. The class were then challenged to create their own criteria to sort the shapes by.

With our knowledge of 2D shape, we have been exploring tessellation.
We created our own tessellation patterns by hand and then used Shapes within Word to create tessellations too!
We used the shape tool, the fill tool and learnt the keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste.

We are focusing on learning times tables. We are doing this through the exploration of arrays, sequencing, recall of facts and modelling the times tables.
We have been investigating 2D shapes including more complex shapes such as rhombus, parallelogram, octagon. We created posters explaining the properties of these shapes including the number of sides and the number of vertices.

This week in Number Talks, we have been revising all the different addition strategies we have learnt. We selected a chilli challenge calculation and then completed the addition calculation using 4 different strategies – adding in chunks, vertical calculations, place value and compensation.
We had great discussion about which strategy we preferred. We also recognised that sometimes our favourite strategy might not always be the quickest or most efficient. Great work, P4/5!

Homework will resume next week (Monday 12th January) for a 4 week block.
Click this link to see the overview.
It will also be posted on the Homework Channel within the class Team which can be accessed via Glow. This is also where you will find the weekly homework grid and any additional resources.
Any issues accessing the homework via Glow, please let Mrs Conetta or Mrs Eccleston know.
Tomorrow the children are welcome to bring a blanket and a toy. We are going to watch That Christmas which is rated PG. Please email Gayle.eccleston@eastayrshire.org.uk if you would prefer your child not to see the film.
Thank you
Mrs Eccleston
