P4/5 Science and Outdoor Learning
We joined an online RHET session with an Ayrshire Potato Farmer who told us all about the process of planting, growing and harvesting potatoes. We contributed questions online during the presentation to deepen our understanding then we completed a persuasive writing task to create a poster to persuade people about the goodness and benefits of potatoes.
P4/5 Expressive Arts
Based on our topic of Australia we created Australian animals out of clay that are often part of the Aboriginal Dream Time stories.
P4/5 Outdoor Learning and HWB
When the sun was shining we took the opportunity to run the daily mile, play ball games, skip, build, create and play games together.
P4/5 My World of Work
Mr Welsh came in to talk to the class about dairy farming and the different roles involved in running a dairy farm. The class looked at examples of feed the cows are given at different stages and all the parts that go into making it. We learnt about the machinery used and what life was like in a typical day of a dairy farmer. We also had the opportunity to discuss and compare the role of farming in the USA. Everyone had lots of interesting questions to ask to learn more about dairy farming. Many thanks to Mr Welsh for a great, interesting and enjoyable learning experience.
P4/5 Outdoor Learning and science
As part of a RHET project to grow your own potatoes, we have planted our potatoes. Fingers crossed we get a good crop!
P4/5 IDL
As part of our Scotland topic we were learning about where foods come from ‘Farm to Fork’ such as oats, milk and bread. After learning about milk production Emily was able to experience milking first hand and shared some photos with us. When learning about lochs and mountains in Scotland we talked about the Gaelic names and meanings they have been given. Rosie brought in a Gaelic book she has from home.
P4/5 IDL
As part of our topic learning about Australia we explored Aboriginal designs and symbols. Matilda brought in her didgeridoo and an Australian hat. We also read the Australian story The Missing Bilbies as part of World Book Day and explored Australian animals.
