Primary 5/6 have arrived at Carlingwark!
As part of their project on life long ago, Primary 1-4 were thinking about how they have changed through time. All the boys and girls brought in some artefacts from home for them to show and talk to the rest of the class about. Some of the children have not changed very much – see how cute they were (and still?) are!
The whole of Portpatrick Primary went into Stranraer to take part in “Beat the Street”. This scheme aims to get as many people as possible, more active, by walking in Stranraer. The children of Portpatrick had a lovely afternoon in the sun – starting and finishing at Agnew Park.
Have you been out walking yet? Sign up to support the school, if you can!
Look at our fantastic new Pupil Council representatives! They all submitted excellent application forms detailing their skills and experience which would be useful for the role.
There were no applicants for P5 and we have no P7’s so there were 3 P6’s reps chosen as lots of P6’s wanted to be a part of it!
The council will meet with Mrs Henry, the principal teacher, at least once a term to share their ideas and opinions on how to make Portpatrick School even better!
Can you spot the evil Pharoah of Egypt ordering the poor Jewish slaves about?
Then we had a fantastic Passover meal. We made a cedar plate with the 6 special types of food on it which help to remember the Passover story and the freedom of the Jewish people. The boys made Kippahs (skull caps) to wear and the girls made Star of David Necklaces. We very much enjoyed our Passover meal!
Primary 1-4 continued to find out more about life long ago, by heading into Stranraer to the Castle of St John and Musuem.
It was a busy morning, and the children got to learn a lot more about how times have changed. Look at the photographs to see what they got up to!
Primary 1-4 have been finding our about life long ago, with the help of a loan box from the Musuem. Have a look at the pictures, are any of you old enough to remember these items in school?!
Portpatrick parent and toddler group recently folded in the village, with many of the children in the group moving on to start Primary education. The committee decided to donate their remaining funds to the community. Portpatrick Primary was very grateful to receive a donation of over £1000. The school plans to use this money to help fund playground development for the pupils to enjoy.
The photograph shows Kim Stevenson and Karen Mc Neill from the toddler group handing the cheque over to young pupils from the school, at Euan’s playspace. Mrs Baillie headteacher said “I would like to pass on our grateful thanks to the toddler group for this very generous donation. This will kind gesture will hopefully benefit all Portpatrick Primary pupils, for years to come – as we hope to combine it with alternative funding to transform our outdoor space.”
On Friday 26th August a team rowed all the way from Northern Ireland to Portpatrick, fundraising for Motor Neurone Disease. Primary 5 and 6 from Portpatrick went down to the harbour to welcome them and cheer them on. Have a look at the welcome party in action!
Portpatrick Primary was delighted to welcome 9 new Primary one pupils to start school. All the boys and girls have settled in very quickly to life at school and are enjoying making new friends. Have a look at the photos of the happy little faces!
