Supporting the education and wellbeing of care experienced children and young people requires a coordinated, multi-agency approach. In Dumfries and Galloway, this reflects our shared corporate parenting responsibility to ensure that children and young people receive the care, support and stability they need to thrive.
This page signposts to key services and partner agencies that can provide support to schools, learners and families. These include education, social work, health, and third sector partners who play a vital role in promoting wellbeing, removing barriers to learning, and improving outcomes.
This work is underpinned by Dumfries and Galloway’s Corporate Parenting Plan (2025–2028), which emphasises the collective responsibility of all services to act in the best interests of care experienced children and young people, and to deliver nurturing, stable and positive experiences. It also reflects our commitment to The Promise, ensuring that services work together in a trauma-informed, rights-based and compassionate way to improve experiences and outcomes.
By working in partnership with these agencies, schools can ensure that the right support is in place at the right time, enabling care experienced learners to feel included, supported and able to achieve their full potential.
