CEET provides:

• Advice and consultation to schools regarding the educational and pastoral needs of care experienced children and young people. Schools can contact the CEET Principal Teacher for guidance and support.
• Health and wellbeing and pastoral support through CEET Support Officers. This can include engagement work with pupils, support for families and carers, assistance with school attendance and participation, and support during key transition periods.
• Targeted literacy and numeracy support through CEET Teachers where a young person requires additional educational intervention beyond universal and Additional Support for Learning provision.
• Attendance at professional meetings, including Child’s Plan meetings, Looked After Child (LAC) reviews and Children’s Hearings where appropriate. The team also contributes written reports and helps coordinate support around the child or young person.  Please note that the Named Person for care experienced children and young people remains the Head Teacher or PTPS and therefore they must attend and lead any professional or multi-agency meetings for education.
• Monitoring and tracking of care experienced pupils, including reviewing pupil check-in information and supporting schools to identify concerns early.

How to Make a Referral to CEET

Before making a referral, schools are advised to consider the Dumfries and Galloway Stages of Intervention Framework and ensure that universal and school-based supports have been explored. 

Referral for Pastoral or Wellbeing Support

A school’s Care Experienced Designated Manager or Principal Teacher of Pupil Support completes a Request for Assistance (RfA) when a care experienced child or young person requires:

• Health and wellbeing support
• Pastoral support
• Improved engagement with school
• Additional support to deliver an agreed school intervention
• Support during transition periods 

Referral for Literacy and Numeracy Support

The Care Experienced Designated Manager completes an RfA for a CEET Teacher when a young person requires additional literacy or numeracy support beyond the universal offer and existing ASL provision.

The RfA Process

The referral is submitted using the Dumfries and Galloway Request for Assistance (RfA) form. The form records:

• Child and family details
• School information
• Named Person details
• Wellbeing concerns using the SHANARRI indicators
• The reason for requesting support and current interventions in place

Once received, CEET reviews the referral, determines the most appropriate support, and contacts the referring member of staff to discuss the outcome and next steps.
